Re: SDF paipo NO2!
Krusher, How was the setup and surf at G-land? Got any photos? Hi, I found the NO2 red board had a little to much volume for a wave like G-land, it was fine to surf and caused no problems, i just felt more at home on the No1 board with less volume. I think this board will be great for less powerful...

Re: SDF paipo NO2!
Been out on the paipo over the last few days at G-land, goes well, different to my last board bit more volume and less concave has made it a little more toward suited for smaller waves

Re: Bottom turns
I designed this custom bodyboard with lines and concave similar to my alaia and had it made up by Kenu Hawaii (Ken Brown) I like it better than a typical bodyboard but it still has too much flotation for my taste which is my complaint with most BB's. I wish it was half as thick. IMNSFHO fat BB styl...

Re: Bottom turns
I really find my foam and fiberglass paipo to be superior in the hold and control department, and after thinking about this I wonder if they have basic bodyboard design all wrong?
If i ever get another bodyboard I will try a custom and get an alaia tail.

Re: Bottom turns
On my own board I stole the back corner design for the alaia, it seems the role from the concave to the V being not a sharp edge grips the water and give you fin like traction with out the drag of a fin. Its talked about by tom wegner in this video on the design of his seaglass tuna model http://www...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Krusher, Do you recall this specific wave? A nice wave & photo. My eye was drawn firstly to how much of the board was out of the water (it looks like just a tail corner is in the water) and then the wake - which is quite different to that in the photo at the top of the forum page (John Galera a...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Got a pic from a friend of me cranking a bottom turn in cali this winter, interesting to see how far over I have lent the board. Pictures show some odd things you never know you do.

Re: Paipo volume and bouyancy
Well so far my SDF board,no1( see it in the building forum) has proved pretty flawless, I have surfed it from 1ft weak welsh waves to double over head California heavy beach breaks. surfed head and a half ocean beach too. I managed to do a road rip and scored rincon head high (barreled first wave) a...

Re: Paipo Building Advice
Thanks for the tip. I've never really considered forward/back positioning. Next time your in the water watch others, the ones who have there weight on the back of the board, snow plow the front of the board and drag the back and never catch waves. The ones forward of the middle balance glide into wa...

Re: Mega Platter Redux
Have you managed to barrel ride the board, or does it just thrust you out on to the shoulder. I was out surfing the other day and one of my talented friends was attempting to stand up ride my paipo, while i floundered around on his 6.0 35 litre short board, i took a couple of waves on it and it felt...

Re: Paipo Building Advice
i've always found the ability to get into waves early is half technique and half board, my boards are only 3'8" and although i dont compete with longboards catch a pretty sloapy wave. The technique is to be forward of the balance center of the board, so if you were stationary you would topple f...

Re: Mega Platter Redux
Minor flotation addition would be my guess. Youcould also get away without padding the whole board. What is the light patch just below the door ahndle - some sort of hand grip? How do these thick boards ride in really hollow waves? yeah its a hand grip, the Sups have a hole in the middle to carry t...

Re: My New Wood Paipo Board
I love the look of it, very nice. I surfed ocean beach for the first time this winter on my paipo, great fun, but horrible paddle, was double over.
to stop pearling you need to have your weight on the back inside corner as you drop. fin-less might actually make that easier.
