Transition to New Forum Software, This Forum's Data May Die

My hosting service provider recently informed me that my current version scripting software, PHP 5.x is being discontinued and that I must update it to PHP v7.x (so it will move to v7.2). The current version of the paipo forums software, phpBB 3.0.14 will not run on PHP v7.x, meaning that this forum...

Re: Question about skegs

You might want to test out some screw threw style fins used in the kite boarding community. You might also find this type of skeg for wake boarding and other board-riding communities.

Re: Paipo Gathering - Sa/Su/Mo, Oct 5-7, 2019 El Capitan SP

I'll split one of those spots with one of you guys Great! General Info: Additional people will need to pay a daily car fee for their vehicle upon arrival. To second Kage, thanks to everyone for their input. I am happy we made our reservations today as the campsites were going quickly. It will be fu...

Campsites were jammed beyond capacity and the mess was over-flowing restrooms, walking through mounds of soiled TP, etc., by late-Saturday afternoon.

Re: Paipo Gathering - Sa/Su/Mo, Oct 5-7, 2019 El Capitan SP

Kage is correct in my wanting to make a reservation at a high reliability of being open campground come October and he is also accurate in noting that reservations are on a rolling 6-month schedule, so this Friday, April 5th is opening date for campsite reservations on Saturday, October 5th. And the...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Sa/Su/Mo, Oct 5-7, 2019 El Capitan SP

Not sure about the current situation but the last couple of trips/events (2015, 2017), and last year (2018), there were a number of issues with most of those locations having to do with campsite closures due to lack of water, closed facilities, closed roads/wash outs... and in 2013 it was a real mes...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Sa/Su/Mo, Oct 5-7, 2019 El Capitan SP

For personal reasons I am already locked into other plans for my cross-country road trip. Popularity has declined? Well, it isn't a Swaylocks super event that is for sure! And a lot of people just don't like to plan or commit that far in advance. Or, maybe because it isn't the very best week-end in ...

Re: Newport Paipo

Hi John, What are the dimensions of the board (length, width, thickness) and how tall is the skeg? The Newport Paipo you have is probably early-1970s vintage at which time most of the product line form Newport Paipo had evolved from paipo/bellyboard prone surfing boards to kneeboards, hence the spoo...

Re: paipo choppy big waves, make it

I would still lean towards a deep "V" nose hull, similar to a boat. As a matter of fact I would rely a lot on boat design. You still might skip a bit but nothing like a flat bottom or concave moving through or over cross chop.

Re: Fins

Pes, my buddy that loaned and encouraged me to try out the DaFins during a surfing session together recommended giving the fins a chance to "modify my kick stroke" and to just "feel the flow." He was right... the first 5 to 10 minutes were a lot different than my Vipers kick but then the feel starte...

Geoffrey, you are exactly right and that is the moral of the story... feet are so different. For me, sizing up to cold water fin socks were so tight they caused cramps.

Re: Do swim fins generate drag significantly ?

Fins (and legs) in the water while riding can affect the entire drag range from none to complete stop. Often times you will need one's knees bent to keep the leg and fin out of the water which means you are planning on the board. Most fins & legs on an even plane behind you on a wave will create som...

Testing 1-2-3, Posting Blockage

I am getting blocked from posting. In technical terms, this is a security setting in the forum software (see below). I do not know whether this is being caused by the hosting service provider or my local WiFi connection. Please let me know if you have recently experienced the same issue or not. Than...
