Re: "swimming board" elva fin swim

I just realized, there are similarities between this board and the patent sought by Georges Hennebutte:

Re: fish the movie

I lost interest toward the end, but agree there is some interesting stuff there. It's hard to tell when they are talking about bellyboards, how these boards were ridden. All the Steve Lis footage is kneeling. Jeff Ching had a Hawaiian background, but he referenced Val Ching riding standup at the Wal...

Re: Finless surfing by John Galera

I've watched this many times.

Dropping with the lip on a big wave is a tough takeoff.

The slide occurs, after the lip hit the wave face above him. Given the wave size, most boards would have had a tough time.

Watch it a few times, the stoke spreads.

I'm no golf player, but did you ever speak to Dermott, the owner of Seasons Lodge that backs onto the golf course?

Re: New board

I recall a wave, a while ago, at a long lined point on my fastest board. The problem wasn't holding a high line on a steep face, it was breaking the high line because of the speed. Putting aside the ability to do more acute turns, finless boards can have two problems. One is the momentary loss of co...

Re: And this too shall pass...but not soon enough

Gday Krusher,

I'm envious. When all is done and dusted, it would be good to catch up and have a wave or two.

Is the cafe/surf shop still open?

Re: And this too shall pass...but not soon enough

I'm pessimistic about when this will end - seems like it is 6 months, but the start of the 6 months keeps changing with talk of tougher restrictions. Non-essential travel is banned, though my idea of essential travel doesn't match the government line. A good time to be living near the coast, though....

If you really want a price Randy Rarick is probably the guy. He's on FB. Did the woman say when he used it in Hawaii? What does the bottom look like?

Re: Bending plywood Paipos

Why don't you send some photos. I've never tried to bend plywood, but the archives have some information. Your husband is a lucky guy. There are 3 basic methods to bend ply: 1) soak as you did, 2) steam and 3) clamp. 1) From Poobah 2010 http://rodndtube.com/paipo/forum/viewtopic.php?t=881 I've been ...

Re: New board

Jeff Quam had something to say about following the line of the wave.

I have also ridden this board extensively, predominately finned, but it rides fine finless. It has a more traditional BB bottom.

Re: New board

I'll see what Chris says about altering fin cant. I know there isn't much thickness in the boards. Regarding the utility off fins. I've never had any problems in steep/hollow waves. The two instances where I recall the tail noticeably losing grip, but not totally, was when doing a bottom turn and go...

Re: New board

Dimensions are similar to other boards: 54 x 21 x 1 7/8". So far it's been ridden finless, which I'll probably stick to. I'm not entirely sure that it is suited to fins. The couple of times I rode the previous version with fins, they didn't seem to interact well with the wings. I'd talked to th...

Re: New board

Sort of fortunately I saw this happen - I was on the bus moving between terminals when I saw my boards fall off the luggage trolley and go under the wheel of the cart. If I hadn't seen it I would have got to the destination and gone - what the %$&* happened to my boards. The airline were good ab...

New board

The latest board - intended to replicate board 7. I only had one wave in a very crowded surf and it went pretty well.

The reason I got this one, was an airline luggage cart ran over my previous two boards.

Calling all Europeans

It has taken a while, but I am in the process of updating my website of the past and some present history of early prone surfing in continental Europe. http://home.brisnet.com.au/~bgreen/Europe/index2.shtml I'm looking for old photos of boards, people surfing or making them and any information about...
