Re: Everybody wants to

Almost ready to test this monster. It comes chest-high on me. Should be interesting to paddle out. So here's the latest... Took the advice and cut out deck skin from the donor part of the board. Tried to use a putty knife to separate it but that didn't work. In the end I used the piece of bottom ski...

Re: fiberglass/polyester + Cores PE, NRG , PP?

Original Boogie kits said "contact cement", which is what I used back then. Kind of rank stuff if I recall. I used epoxy resin to reattach the loose bottom skin and attach deck skin to the EPS foam on my Wavestorm project. I'm going to give that a full 5 day cure time, and then we'll see. ...

Re: Everybody wants to

For me, the one constant in life is the feeling that comes from being in the ocean. Everything else, family, friends, jobs, hobbies, interests, likes, dislikes, bikes, surfboards, is transitory. It's all pretty much transitory, I suppose. I would order that list like so: the people (family and frie...

Re: Everybody wants to

i'n 5 years i think i have nailed down my paipo design to something i think i could ride for the rest of my days, as I feel the weakest link now is my skill, the board will do what ever I want with out and fight back. So I think now if i constructed one from light enough paulowina (and dont get fat...

Re: Everybody wants to

They are the best selling board in the world! "the magic" of them is that the are the cheapest board you can buy coming straight out of china. They unfortunately fill the needs of the average cheap kook starting out in the sport. They are the plastic bag/single use water bottle of the sur...

Re: Everybody wants to

Thanks for the feedback, guys. The bottom skin is hdpe plastic i would not use that as a tail block ii will have hard edges, Use PE from the deck t I was figuring to sand the edges. I'm also not sure of the integrity of the deck skin since the board is thoroughly abused, but a quick test shows I mig...

Re: Am I asking for too much?

It's so crowded most days that I've turned around because I couldn't find parking. Just trying to find something that would be fun without dodging longboards, standies and young whippersnappers... Glad to find out I'm not the only one "noticing" the batshit craziness we are awash in latel...

Re: Everybody wants to

More photos... I'm going quick and dirty. This is the shape. I'm not going to try to skin it and reshape. It is what it is, sort of. Camera angle makes it look asymetrical...I'm no hipster; it's squared off, straight up and down. F7.jpg Closeup of the Wavestorm skin. Lots of little textures bits, pl...

Re: Everybody wants to

These actually are EPS, not PE like bodyboards. I didn't think about using deck material; I cut bottom skin. The deck material of this board is a bit beat anyway...board was well-abused. More photos later.

Everybody wants to

Everybody wants to, you know it's true! I yanked a broken Wavestorm out of a trash can at Zuma a couple of weeks ago, some kind of year-end flotsam from the surf school up by Trancas. It was only held together by the bottom skin when I got it. I've never forgotten the story and photo of the altered ...

Re: Am I asking for too much?

Short of living within easy walking distance of your favorite surf break pretty much everyone has to deal with your equipment situation to one degree or another. I don't have that luxury of location, so over the decades I've gone the way you mention about having a variety of gear. Sometimes that has...

Finless wide open

Came across this short video this morning...yes, standup...but it was pretty mind-blowing for me. Finless at speed. I'm at a stage where making things less complicated appeals to me but watching this was pretty inspiring. The guy set up a complex task for himself and figured it out. Time for me to h...

Figgered it out thanks to the FAQs, which is good since I have some project photos coming one of these days. Perhaps years.

Geoffrey brought it up...must have been all those years of sanding dust...if I could remember how to post photos and images I'd dump my favorite right now.

I haven't been active for a while Welcome back. Having myself spent 3 years off and on with ailment-related malaise I feel your pain. Fortunately with the prone environment it is much quicker to recoup the skills. Especially once beyond the first session or two when all the back/shoulder muscles wa...

RE Cold water and wetsuits...hahaha. Welcome to the club! BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS! Modern wetsuits are really, really good. They can be a bitch to put on due to the stretch, but once on a well-fitted suit will fit like a second skin. As other older surfers can attest, it wasn't always so. Before I go...
