I never know the Fahrenheit: Celsius conversion, but on this occasion checked. 30 = -1.1 Ouch that's cold. Hope you have a good wetsuit. That's freezin.

UK bellyboard for sale on e-bay
Pete Robinson from the UK surfing museum alerted me to this: " This is a very special auction for an original Crest vintage wooden bellyboard - a true classic and the 'holy grail' of bellyboards as these are believed to be the first ever produced that had a brand. They were created in Cornwall ...

It would be hobbits, if it was in NZ or hobbit land.
Nobby, tells me the new boards are: 70cm length, 30cm width, and 2,2cm thickness, so I'd say cm.

Poobah,
Info Nobby sent me. He's done a great job with the modern version. The taller board is clearly "flared"as Nobby describes it. Click on the middle photo to see the full shot.

Re: John Galera nofin on Youtube
My first paipos were second hand boards I got from John. While he had other paipo role models to learn surfing, his boards are unique. One of the really interesting aspects of the paipo board experience, is learning to start over again, like a beginner. Down the bottom of the pecking order, having t...

Re: Date this board
Rod, Frustrating for the poster seeking a serious response, but entertaining for the passerby. The outline had a little too much hip for me, but otherwise I thought the outline pretty modern looking. I consulted a couple of books - Greg Noll's 'The art of the surfboard' contains on page 53, a board ...

Krusher,
May your run of luck continue. I kept thinking, wave ouside. Looks like the shelf there must extend out a bit as well.

Re: vintage video
Krusher. Some interesting photos here: http://mypaipoboards.org/interviews/SeanRoss/Sean_Ross_2009-1109.shtml The aerial at AM was ahead of its time. The bouncing of the HPDs is a combination of wave chop, speed and board design (HPD can ride bounce at speed like a stone that skims when thrown into ...

Poobah,
I don't think Nobby checks the paipo forum. I should get my new computer next week. I'll try to remember to e-mail Nobby with your questions.
The slide board has a name suggesting it wants to be surfed.

Re: vintage video
Krusher, One of the guys in the video Is Jim Growney. Jim has been interviewed for the paipo interview series. The modern version of these boards, the Hawaii Paipo Design, is made by Paul Lindbergh, who also has been interviewed. There are a few people on the forum who ride HPDs, and then there is a...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Krusher, If this is the ordinary sort of waves you get maybe my wife's idea of going to London one day isn't such a bad idea. I surfeld in Ireland a year or so ago at this beachbreak and the tidal range and effect on where there were waves was pretty amazing let alone bewildering. On the second surf...

Re: Xylem Malama Kai paipo
Philly, I had Tom make me a paipo. It is probably wider and a bit longer than many of his paipo. The bottom is fairly flat, with bit of a roll to the rail. Many of the heavily concaved boards may be alaia also ridden standing up. The thinner the board, the more flex. I tried one of Tom's really thin...
