Re: Spring session

Thanks, that was a longboard friendly wave, it broke outside and connected with the inside. The flat spot in the middle was weak so I had to "pump" and paddle a little bit to keep going. The last part was fun, canon ball stance, perfect triming, the board accelerated until someone was on m...

Re: Question about skegs

You might want to test out some screw threw style fins used in the kite boarding community. You might also find this type of skeg for wake boarding and other board-riding communities. Sounds like a good idea. I looked it up on google, I found a lot of screwable wake board small skegs, it seems easy...

Re: New (to me) stuff on Tom Wegener's site

If you see cork as foam and wood as fiberglass then all you have is the natural forerunner of the toxic version we gravitated too. "In the middle of the board there is a thin layer of XPS foam and on the top and bottom there are two layers of 2mm paulownia veneer." Sounds like foam more t...

Question about skegs

I am considering adding 2 little skegs to one of my plywood board. I often have projects that I don't do eventually, but I think I will make this one happen, as it seems feasible to me. Pretty simple, I will use pine wood to make the skegs, and use big screws to attach them. They won't be super thin...

The "big wave surfie" looks interesting, although I find that mixing foam and wood is a strange idea.

Re: 45 biaxial degree fiberglass?

I like the idea of having cork rails, could be a little bit safer than hard rails. I plan to do something like that this weekend, I will make a mini paipo made of 2 plywood sheets, plus a cork sheet sandwiched in between. The cork sheet will be a little bigger than the plywood sheets, so if the boar...

Re: aluminium sheet+ eps/xps board

Plywood (1 cm tick) has a lot of downsides, but it does flex quite well if the board is not too wide.

Re: aluminium sheet+ eps/xps board

I think that is a wise decision not to use aluminium in the board making process.
It sounds dangerous, more than wood. Also, what would be the advantage ?

Re: Front fin(s) ?

I haven"t tried it, it was more a wonder than a project :D . I have another "project" in mind which is to kneeboard my paipo, or even better, to "drop knee" it. At my latest session there was a bodyboarder riding "drop knee", I though it looked fun but the classic ...

Spring session

Hi there, After a long winter with only a few sessions at weird repli spots, I had a nice spring session Today, nice conditions. Still the same old Atlantic beach break :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFMLsVIj99g I lost the board twice, once after a wipeout, but the board wasn't far from me, and ...

Re: hanplane templates ? measures?

I don't have a lot of experience in the handplanes field, I tried it once only, I shaped one from a piece of pine plank and rode it. That was fun, but I got plenty of water projections in the face. It could probably have been avoided or at least limited by shaping the bottom differently. Having said...

Front fin(s) ?

On my long and narrow plywood paipo, when I turn, I feel like the pivot point is at the front of the board, the back of the board just reacts by "drifting". This is when I ride on a very forward position. It doesn't always turns this way (in a gently drifting move), sometimes it just side ...

Re: Riding position

And, a respectful question for those that employ the "superman' technique…why? I have a hard time envisioning, let alone experiencing benefit from that on paipos… obviously a standard and totally functional approach in body surfing as in your hand becomes a planing surface, but I'm stumped on ...

Do swim fins generate drag significantly ?

I was wondering, do swim fins generate drag significantly ? I thought about that the other day, as I was riding a very small, weak wave. I was wearing asymetric fins, Churchill like model, oversized to balance the tick winter socks (short rider but XL fins). As I was riding I could feel the flippers...

Re: Anybody has paipo videos to share ?

OG-AZN, I think these are ones of the first paipo videos I watched on youtube a few years ago.
I remember I was thinking "that looks crazy dangerous", but I was impressed especially by the tube views.
Riding nasty waves on a piece of plywood, that's the spirit :)

Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain

A foggy session this morning: https://youtu.be/C9sFLRV_wVE The fogg was crazy, I think it is due to the temperature that dropped down very quickly during the night. I was with my son, it was complicated at times to find each other after a wave. Also, it was hard to appreciate the size of incoming wa...
