Re: New board
Seldom, I'll see if I can get a link to John Galera's video. The Galera boards have a huge concave deck and this looks like it would make the rail hard to keep connected/sunk in the wave face. the design of your latest board is the opposite and looks like it would knife into the face easily and res...

Re: New board
I recall a wave, a while ago, at a long lined point on my fastest board. The problem wasn't holding a high line on a steep face, it was breaking the high line because of the speed. Putting aside the ability to do more acute turns, finless boards can have two problems. One is the momentary loss of c...

Re: And this too shall pass...but not soon enough
Gday Krusher, I'm envious. When all is done and dusted, it would be good to catch up and have a wave or two. Is the cafe/surf shop still open? Bob No , the cafe shut a few weeks ago, we are on unemployment benefit through the government for up to 12 week as of now, tourism was ahuge part of the loc...

Re: And this too shall pass...but not soon enough
Over here in ireland I am on lockdown too, but being in such a rural area. (2weeks done, there straight into a 3week extension) i am able to sneak to some close to my house reefs that are not near any public car park or in view of anyone other than the local farmer who I'm sure could care less. I wa...

Re: Soft edge
Did they make the wave at Snowdonia like that deliberately btw? no, I feel its just a sub-optimum designed bottom profile, that is floored due to trying to make a wave that can be used by more than one person at a time. There is the main wave which I feel is sub-optimum dut to there attempt to also...

Re: New board
How would you describe these different lines? and are they by choice or by design constraints?nomastomas wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 4:45 pm "Regarding the utility of fins..." just depends on where you want to surf on the wave. Finless boards take different lines than finned boards, but either line can be "fun".

Re: Soft edge
Well, you have a testing ground down in Bristol at the wave. no too far for a road trip.
I would not recommend surf Snowdonia in wales as the wave there was less like a normal ocean wave.

Re: "Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard
I got my board (same model) a few months back, only riden it once on a knee high glassy day at a reef, it sure is fun, rips along in the pocket. Its a little over flexy for me, managed to bend reverse rocker into it and the nose went under on one turn, but a great little craft.

You sure have some alternative constructions! Do you just test out samples and see what sticks?

Re: New summer Groveler
Well I hadn't got out on this board in a while so for a second surf of the day I decided to try it again this time in the best waves I had given it a go in. And simple answer is it dosent work for me. I feel like i have to get up the front of the board to get over the rocker balance point to get it ...

That's interesting...I've never experienced that. It may be that the dual "exit concaves" I place on the bottom are doing their job and relieving the pressure beneath the tail, eliminating excess lift in this area. Lindsay Lord discuss this phenomenon in his book and which inspired Bob Si...

Re: New summer Groveler
I've done a few mods to the summer groveler, moved the leash plug to where I wanted (asked) for it to be installed in the first place. 10" back from the nose. I also find when I first fit a new desk pad it too sticky and it hard to move up and down the board, this resulted in by my 3rd surf the...

slowmo video
Saw this video recently has a load of great slow-motion video, very interesting to watch rider leg/swimfin positions and also board angles of attack and body position on boards.

Wetsuits can be like swim fins, see how it fits on you. O'Neil wetsuits have consistently fit me (whether I was skinnier or plumper) but Rip Curls were just the opposite (constricting my range of motion). Try before buy. O'Neill seems to be the only wetsuit brand that has exclusive technology, I ha...
