Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Of course could have been my lack of skill too since I rode mostly stand-up hard boards at the time

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Thanks, K. That is interesting as I am only 5'3" and my hip-->shoulder is almost exactly 19" as well (long torso, short arms legs though not really a dwarf!). Years ago I had a 40" bb and though I liked the paddle speed and easy take-offs it felt a bit "big" riding it; not u...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Was just now in bed about 3/4 asleep and woke my self all the way up laughing when this idea popped into my head. If I make a board similar to this, and I well may sometime. I will call it TUNA BOOGER And here's the logo, just need to get it printed on rice paper or some such http://i898.photobucket...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Why I am curious about body vs board dimensions is contemplating similar design but for my body AND would fit inside a big but checkable on airlines suitcase; running total of outer dimensions for suitcase need to be equal to or less then 62". 38X19 is right at the 2:1 Lord dimensions, and adds...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Edited above for mo' bettah' number--"hip" to shoulder
Hip = if you rotate leg back and forth and feel for the bump on outer side near top i.e. greater trochanter, which is very close to same as crease across the front. Later, more time, I will post the "why"...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Just read your interview with Bob. Great stuff! Brings up question or two. You have already posted most of relevant dims but I'd love to know nose rocker is you set straight edge along bottom so that it shows the 1/4 inch tail rocker you mentioned, what is the nose rocker? Also, big part of riding d...

Re: Cool downs and leg cramps
Actually stretching before INCREASES chance of injury. You want to get muscles warmed up, blood flowing etc but not stretched. Stretch AFTER the work, surfing, gym, whatever. Stretching on non-surf days is also helpful overall. And nutritional factors can effect cramping, things like various mineral...

Forget the board. I want to know what kind of vitamins he is using!?!?!!!He surfs year round WITHOUT wetsuit. He only wears a wetsuit hood. I saw him out February wetsuitless.

Re: An Old Mini Simmons "Mega Platter" video
Looks like really worked well! Even the very tiny, flatter waves, lots of glide carrying speed into the flats for cutbacks but still plenty maneuverable.

Re: Costa Rica 2014
Did for several years and love it! Last few have lived in Arizona then Colorado Rockies and now Andes in Ecuador. Much more focused on meditation it seems but I like to keep tuned in to the mental bits as someday I have a feeling that "I'll be back." (be sure to read that last part with an...

Re: Costa Rica 2014
David, ever try swimming a mat out uninflated and blow it up outside? The time spent blowing might be more than compensated for by the faster easier trip out, depends on conditions etc.

Re: Asymmetrical vs Symmetrical swim fins
I had some ProForce fins I got at a thrift shop in Tucson of all places for $2. Fit like a glove. They were amazingly comfortable and easy to kick with. Worked moderately well but lacked much of the drive/acceleration and top end speed of my Viper-7's

Maybe you mentioned this elsewhere, but on those "big" boards do use mostly arms, mostly legs, or what paddling out and around and catching waves?

You meant GL yes? Never saw it, only remembering telling me about its catastrophic failure which I think led to trip to the ERairboy808 wrote:How did the Dale S. board work? Did you see it in action GJ?

Re: Thin build, flexible with strength.
Thank you Bob! That is the very board. And of course after riding it (and snapping it) Dale had many changes in mind if he ever did a next iteration.

Re: Thin build, flexible with strength.
Don't know where to access photos but many years ago, Dale Solomonson built a guitar pick style paipo of only carbon fiber glass and epoxy. He then added closed cell foam pad to deck for removable extra floatation. You can shape in full rails (Greenough Velos style) w/ super thin body of any shape a...

Re: Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP
I haven't seen hardly any old people in the month I have been here though I did see quite a few up in Cotacachi while there. To answer your on topic question--depends on if the dog knocked it over or if it is propped against padding and well secured. And I guess all that depends on who's garage it is!

Re: Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP
So far as I know at this point, old sliver mining town for one thing, xpat/gringo magnet for last quite a few years. Lot of hippie types here, vegan raw fooders, backpackers passing through. Strange mix. Some say the Ecuadorians do not like expats all that much as they have been doing so much real e...

Re: Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP
Bob, been in Ecuador about 5 weeks. First 4 in northern Andes in Cotacachi getting my residence visa squared away w/ help of excellent lawyer. Past month in Southern Andes in Vilcabamba living at Vipassana meditation center. And that last bit is a clue. As I get older and start looking increasingly ...
