Re: Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP

Thanks Bob though currently I am living in the mtns of Southern Ecuador about 15 hours bus ride from good surf. And they seldom stop for pee breaks!

Re: Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP

HIs site redesign looks GREAT! No way to contact on there, yet but if you talk to him soon, tell him at least some of "the public" likes it! I'm lookkng forward to any ride reports from test pilot because I like that more parallel outline a lot more I think. I made a pretty flat plywood &q...

Re: fin Savers?

I've made my own that worked very well. Couple blown out, useless surf leashes wherever you can find them; can't even remember where or how I got mine. Cut off the leash and just make connectors from nylon webbing, backpack strap sort of material. As long as the velcro is good they will last for years

Re: Cool Mat Website

Duckdiving a mat is a skill for sure and only good in small surf. Grab front corners and shove down hard with body sort of lifted off mat; that forces the air towards the rear so front collapses and sinks. Really similar to ducking a hard board only that you can't shove w/ with your knee. Bigger sur...

This was going on when I was in high school, 1967-68 around there. Much worse I am sure as more and more rats in a small box but not a new war at all

Re: HPD Flex Paipos - Small

Too bad Dale is pretty much off the radar. He made flex design "guitar pick" paipo many years ago from carbon fiber. Don't remember much detail though. Also told me on tele that he almost got himself killed once when a glass/flex design failed catastrophically under load in beefy surf. Thi...

Do you mean as in "eliminating the hordes of surfers due to early death"?

Re: HPD Flex Paipos - Small

Love the experimental spirit! My first reaction, halfway through your post, when I saw the instagram vid was, "YIKES!" Had a feeling it was just a it too much. Fiber glass thin enough to flex that much just won't hold up. Wave forces are so much greater than we can tell from dry land and h...

Re: Wavejet bodyboard

I think great fun for a quadriplegic but not for me. For me a big part of the fun and draw of surfing in general is to get away from technology and civilization as much as possible. The tech and all is necessary to some extent to get there but I REALLY don't want to have it with me in the water. Plu...

Re: Finless or Not?

i love this quote; everything works, its a matter of "IF" you like the way it works~unknown Another variation: Late 60's was hanging out in WIlderness shop in SB harassing Greenough and fingering Velo while he did all rope glass lay-up for new fin. Every question I asked him he answered w...

Re: Mega Platter Redux

Elbow pads are a good idea! Not sure about using the full deck pad in tropical or warm waters and how it interacts with skin. I always wear a rash guard of some kind. It would save on wax! Now... if I would only get my eyes fixed ;) I have always worn a rash guard or tee shirt in the "olden da...

Re: Paipo Building Advice

I have done the "early in" on a mat a couple times by shear luck. I hung way off the back and stiffened my body so I basically had one looooong rail line, mat and me and kicked big deep power kicks. As I felt the wave a bit I kept kicking HARD and gradually reeled the mat in. Of course, th...

Re: John Galera nofin on Youtube

A rolled bottom of equal width to a flat bottom will have less planning area so be somewhat slower but since the added curves are perpendicular to the water flow should not be pushing water I don't think. In a turn, somewhat different dynamics of course.
