Re: New project... this time a Paipo
Also keep in mind interaction between rocker and fin toe-in. Flat rocker resists turning more than curve-y rocker. Flat rocker plus no toe-in = max speed, but very stiff handling. Lots of rocker plus lots of toe-in is very responsive, but needs to be constantly turned (up and down wave face) to main...

Re: New project... this time a Paipo
Use symmetrical foil if no cant or toe-in. Much better hydrodynamics. Asymmetrical foil benefits toe-in. Toe-in benefits turning. Use 0" toe + sym foil for max speed, 1/4" toe +asym foil for max turning, 1/8" toe + asym toe for in between. On quads, 1/4" toe in front and 1/8"...

Re: New project... this time a Paipo
I like the outline with WP slightly back. All the curve in the outline should help compensate for the flat-ish rocker vis-a-vis turning. Aspect ratio (L:W) looks really good. Once in a good wave, that thing should fly. Question in my mind is whether or not ultra-thin rail will hold a high-line witho...

Re: TBG7
Summer doldrums are putting a kink in my R&D plans. I've got another twin fin set to try out. Too early to start thinking about a Fall Paipo Gathering?

Re: TBG7
Interesting thought...although airplane prop speeds are much greater. I really don't understand the science behind either. The basic fin template has roots that go all the way back to the Dewey Weber "Hatchet".

Re: TBG7
I've been using FCS Fusion and more recently FCS II boxes for over 10yrs, with all types of boards and fin templates, and I've never had a fin box or a fin tab failure due to a surfing maneuver. I've seen fin boxes of all types' e.g. Bahne, Futures and FCS dislodged following collisions with rocks, ...

Re: TBG7
Eureka! moment...I bought a set of fins for my new but still-being-glassed kneeboard, and on a lark I installed them on my G7. WOW! The improvement in performance rivals my quad G-5. The fin template is the Wayne Rich Nightmare Twin by True Ames fins. Wayne is a shaper's shaper, having won the prest...

50" Thomas Patrick G7 $550 **SOLD**
TBG7_50.jpg 50” x 22-1/2” x 2-1/4” 26Liters This Thomas Patrick G7 prone board is the product of contemporary surfboard design. Starting with EPS/Epoxy stringer-less construction, and modern planing hull design theory, and finished off with a twin-fin setup, the G7 is exceptionally light, fast and ...

Re: TBG7
Caught a solid combo swell Mother’s Day Weekend in San Diego. Clean conditions in the AM on both days, sand-filled reef point with 3’-4’ faces on Friday, bumping up to 6’-7’ faces on Saturday. I surfed the G7 Twin on Fri with 4.6” fins (TA Side-Bites) and 5.1” fins on Sat (TA Twin). The G7 Twin with...

Finally! After an 8-week wait, my new G-7 has been completed. TPS_G7a.JPG TPS_G7b.JPG TPS_G7d.JPG TPS_G7c.JPG TPS_G7e.JPG What you can't see is the belly-to-concave-to-exit concave-with-V bottom contours. You may notice the large 5.1" twin fins that I've installed. There are two reasons for thi...

Re: TBG7
It looks pretty much like the board above (the one with the black pinline). I made some additional small tweaks to the rocker and the rail shape, but outline, bottom contours and fin placement are the same.

Re: TBG7
The G7s have been finish-shaped and left with my glasser. I was really pleased with how they turned out. I'm especially happy with the rails. Looking at the rails from various 3-D views in Aku is very helpful, but no substitute for running your hand down the rail. Should be ready to surf in 4 weeks,...

Re: TBG7
"Getting in earlier..." is always a tough one on a prone board. You could go "Mega", as some have, Skiff comes to mind. Problem for me with a Mega- design is paddling out on bigger days without the ability to duck-dive easily. I've just come to accept the air-drop and wear UDTs.

Re: TBG7
Short answer...depends. I have a specific formula for length based upon the rider's height, so I always start with a specific length. Then I consider volume, which I normally base upon the rider's weight but might adjust up or down depending upon wave condition, rider experience, etc. The width of m...

Re: TBG7
Cut blanks have finally been delivered, but unfortunately, I'm still in Portland. Should be able to finish-shape them next week and and get a couple of photos posted. FWIW, The surfing industry in the US is seriously backlogged. It took me 7 weeks to get blanks that normally take only 2 weeks to get...
