Re: Paipo Gathering in San Simeon Aug 3-5, 2012
Heart San Simeon is ON! Kim Green is reserving a spot for the two of us and our two tents. Individual campsites allow up to two cars and 8 people (there is over flow vehicle parking nearby). The camp service assigns spots -- guess we might be able to ask in advance or upon arrival to try putting us ...

Re: Paipo Gathering in Hearst San Simeon SP
There are sites available on that weekend. Plaskett is my fave, but we can't get a reservation. I vote 'switch'. Opinions? Is this the creature you were looking for? http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/ci_9692827 I vote switch as well if there is reservation availability. I would prefer a park at camp...

Re: Paipo Gathering in Big Sur
I could probably make the long journey..another alternative is San Simeon campground 45 minutes south of Plaskett. It offers both tent and "primitive " sites, and for those who prefer more civilized accomodations, both San Simeon and Cambria offer hotels, motels, and B&B's that range fr...

Paipo Gathering in San Simeon Aug 3-5, 2012
Kim (kage) and I have been informally talking about camping out at Plaskett Campground, Big Sur (CHANGED to Heart San Simeon State Park), in early August. The weekend of opportunity for me is Fri-Mon, Aug 3-6. Plenty of sites are still available to advance reservations and as Dr. Robert Moynier says...

Re: KSUSA kaput?
KSUSA seems to be gone. Replaced by adds and a pic of smooching couple. A warning for fringe surf group sites? Rod, don't forget to pay the electricity bill! It appears to be back and very much alive. Probably a weird ripple in the force... or like what sometimes happens to me... on travel and a ch...

Re: Space Quad Displacement Hull
How wide are the tail and nose (12" back from each tip)? Tail looks to be thin -- what are the thinnest and thickest parts (in inches)? How is it riding on your reefs?

Not exacting a "web page" or "blog"
Stumbled across a somewhat interesting Facebook page called Aquatic Apes. It is turning up several unknown paipo riders and also some familiar faces.

Riding a Plank Makes Cover of TransWorls Surf
To say the least I was a bit surprised to see a prone plank rider make the cover of a mainstream mass audience surfing magazine. It is also fair to say, "What you see is all you get!" Wish there had been more to the story. Masters, Brad. (2012, June). South Pacific: Find Your Own Way. Tran...

Re: SHF The Innovations of Hobie
This is bound to be a good one. I did a quick walk through on Tuesday after wrapping up research work. Found my invite in the stack of mail awaiting my return this evening. Interesting side note that I mentioned to Barry Haun, the curator, that touches on Hobie, Grubbie Clark and paipos boards. The ...

Re: Paipo Rider on a Book Cover
When this book came up on Surf Blurb, I noticed that it was already listed on the Paipo Biblio in the "to be obtained" section. Good job guys. http://mypaipoboards.org/bibliography_MyPaipos.shtml Nice postal card find, Poobah. Look forward to adding your scans to the collection. I added t...

Paipo Rider on a Book Cover
This appeared on Joe Tabler's weekly Surf Blurb eMail, compliments of Allen Kukel. The book was on eBay. Apparently the book has many illustrations. Any more paipo boarding do ya think?

Re: My Checkered RPM Addiction
Pretty board. Hopefully there will be swell between now and FL so you can give it a solid workout. I am out of commission for the near future... should be able to paddle out at FL on June 2nd, but that will be touch and go. Need to let my ribs & associated tissue to heal so I can surf with aban...

Re: Austin mini paipo (44") impressions
Rod, It has been flat, flat, flat here. I have the 44" set up with 2" turbo side bites and 3" center set way back. It worked OK in slop, but I haven't had it out in real surf. Ideally, I would have a board caddy and water videoman to facilitate board swapping and documentation. I thin...

My Checkered RPM Addiction
It happened. I succumbed to another dosage, another shot of S&S Model of the Checkered RPM. Turns out that I needed a replacement S&S RPM after leaving my namesake board in Costa Rica for safe keeping until my next trip there. Board fees and such have just become to expensive and complicated...

Re: Austin mini paipo (44") impressions
Ted: I was talking to Austin yesterday during the pick-up of a new board. He is very interested in how the 44" version is working out. Have you been able to ride it much the past couple of months?
