Also noteworthy how early he was in the wave and effortlessly planning for a long time on a very flat roller.

The glue up your own I did once. Forget what glue I used but got thin sheets of luan I think. Laid each layer cross grain to the previous one. I used shims, 2X4's, etc on garage floor to create a "rocker table". Slathered on the glue and put the stack on the shims. Weighted w/ sand bags, k...

Thanks for posting that! Jeff's comments about localism, effects of competition on surfing and approaches to wave riding, etc are things that really need to be heard a whole lot more in the general surfing community.

Very likely will help stave off senility over the years And yes, if you can get to a facility that has constant almost identical waves peeling off from a machine, that's ideal.

I know with hard fins on standup boards, tiny differences in trailing edge foil can make the difference between a loud "hummmm" and not. And almost certainly that hum is lost speed, drag of a detrimental type

There are times when I'm moving around the line-up that I pull the nose of my 49" board under my chest, stop kick paddling and simply arm paddle (you know, swim). I'm always surprised at how quickly and smoothly I can move through the water, at least for short periods of time, when doing this....

Another option for removable/changeable wings could be morphed off the Greenough bolt on fin idea in attached .jpg's. Maybe flat metal strap bolted into wing, wrap around board and bold through. Only hard part really would be matching shape of wing edge to board rail for tight fit. Not sure of could...

My mind gets drawn to complex, compound curves, magic edges, vee hidden inside double concave, etc. But in 50 years of riding waves, 100% of my best, most functional, most fun boards have all been simple simple simple

I detect a noticeable difference in 5# vs 10# paipo boards. I too notice significant differences between light and heavier boards. On paipo, swing weight isn't much of thing the way it is on stand-up esp longboards, but remember, much of the time when riding you are at least partly unweighted which...

It was years ago so likely better design/materials now, but I had a no zip pull over (3mil, 5 mil) and though it was super warm and comfortable in the water, it was truly a bee-atch to get off over my head. I can remember two times when tired after a long go out that I just couldn't. Once in near pa...

Can't remember who said/where I read, but quite a few years back I remember reading that GG style hulls, at very high speeds, will plain up on smaller and smaller area along the midline and lift out of the water. Not likely in continental US type waves, think Sunset, HI beach West swell type power. ...

Zensuni, I don't know if this would work so you'd want to test it on a sample piece of neoprene--there is a product called Vulkem116, some sort of silicon caulk, that dries rubbery and bonds very strongly to what you put it on when its fresh from the tube. Some people, used to be many, used it on th...

I've never worked w/ cork but have read (and makes sense to me) that you can seal it pretty well without loosing is "soft", forgiving qualities. Squeeze on thinned epoxy so it dives into the crevices and leaves little to none on the surface. Probably would also work w/ varnish.
