Re: slowmo video

Great stuff...really amazing. Clearly shows the benefit of finless riding in hollow waves. I have found that , with fins, I have to battle being drawn up the face to the lip. Not the case in slope-y waves, regardless of size. In those waves, fins are a definite advantage for moving up the face. Not ...

Re: T-Belly G6

I followed the same path, but shifted to the double on the G3. I think the double is more effective in directing and enhancing water flow then a wide single. Typically, the board is on one rail or the other. But this double exit concave is not new, nor my idea. It has been used for decades on the Bo...

Re: Latest board from Chris Garrett

interesting...I like the bottom contours and the foil :D I like to use FCS Fusion plugs which come with a choice of fin cants, 0, 5 & 9 which allow me to counter the impact of the tail concaves on fin cant.

Re: T-Belly G6

That's interesting...I've never experienced that. It may be that the dual "exit concaves" I place on the bottom are doing their job and relieving the pressure beneath the tail, eliminating excess lift in this area. Lindsay Lord discuss this phenomenon in his book and which inspired Bob Sim...

Re: T-Belly G6

With a deep deck concave and shallow bottom concave the G6 is 1.75" thick at the centerline and 2.25" thick out at 2.5" in from the rail. This configuration gives the TBs an "I-Beam" cross section which serves to eliminate flex (the enemy of speed), while making the deck mor...

Re: New summer Groveler

Certainly there are differences between heavy and light boards, its just that speed isn't one of them.

Re: T-Belly G6

Extremely happy with the performance, even though the choppy, chest-high, late-afternoon session was far from the conditions the G6 is designed for. I was way over-finned with 5.1" rears and 4.7" fronts, and in these conditions with these fins, the G6 was a notch slower than the G5. But in...

Re: New summer Groveler

Heavier total load (board+rider) perhaps, but there are so many other variables to consider/control, that it would be well beyond my ability to test.

I agree...planing area, volume, bottom & rail contours, tail design, flex and finally, board weight.

Re: New summer Groveler

Last Fall, I built two identical EPS/Epoxy 10-6 gliders using CNC shaping machine. One for a friend, which was glassed light, with a 1/4" basswood stringer, and weighed in at 17lb. The other for me, which was glassed much heavier with a 5-ply gun stringer (only 11' stringer available at the tim...

Re: New summer Groveler

I use an ultralight 5ft "grom" leash and have never found "board flapping" to be a problem. And, yes, I do enjoy knowing that the hard shell and sharp-edged fins are far from my head/face when the ocean decides to rip the board out of my hands.

Re: New summer Groveler

Lighter is better from a "feel" perspective. My 5lb G5 "feels" like riding nothing.

Re: T-Belly G6

Finished the G6 today. Can't wait to get it glassed. Unlike it's predecessors, the bottom is flat, rail-to-rail in the mid-section instead of concave. This was a de-tuning of the bottom to reduce lift. Same convex nose and V tail, with dual exit concaves as the other TBs. This will be a quad fin and...

Re: TBG5

I totally agree with your arm position/location, but I design my boards to provide a little support for the upper thigh when ridden in this position. The tailblock is about 6" below the natural break at the hip when ridden in the position you describe. It requires a slight shift forward to go f...
