interesting...I like the bottom contours and the foil I like to use FCS Fusion plugs which come with a choice of fin cants, 0, 5 & 9 which allow me to counter the impact of the tail concaves on fin cant.

That's interesting...I've never experienced that. It may be that the dual "exit concaves" I place on the bottom are doing their job and relieving the pressure beneath the tail, eliminating excess lift in this area. Lindsay Lord discuss this phenomenon in his book and which inspired Bob Sim...

Certainly there are differences between heavy and light boards, its just that speed isn't one of them.

I agree...planing area, volume, bottom & rail contours, tail design, flex and finally, board weight.

I use an ultralight 5ft "grom" leash and have never found "board flapping" to be a problem. And, yes, I do enjoy knowing that the hard shell and sharp-edged fins are far from my head/face when the ocean decides to rip the board out of my hands.

Lighter is better from a "feel" perspective. My 5lb G5 "feels" like riding nothing.
