Re: 45 biaxial degree fiberglass?

That is the grace of this idea, there is no fiberglass in these parts. in fact you can laminate the fiber cork fiber cork eps in rectangular fiber and then cut with the template of the paipo, sand the edges at 90 degrees and paste the cork to make the rails. a Bodypo style but lighter thanks the co...

Re: 45 biaxial degree fiberglass?

Only issue could be that 2 light layers is stronger than one heavier one. Oh, and thicker/heavier cloth is more difficult to wrap on thin rails and corners etc.

Sounds great...unless, well...if you have super powers and try to ride one you'd probably drown. ;)

Re: hanplane templates ? measures?

Just my opinion but I don't think handplanes need a fin....your body acts as the "surfboard" and the handplane is the fin. The can be any size. It is really just a matter of personal preference. 18 inches is plenty long enough and width is also important to how it handles

Re: Front fin(s) ?

I think maybe better performance if you can figure out prone weight shift to engage the rail more. Not sure if easier or harder to do prone vs standing but here's a really nice standing version, I may have posted previously somewhere here

Re: Technique: Riding position

Hunting youtube for "action" of your Papa Paepo'o style I found the below video. Doesn't show you riding but the smile on that little face made my day. My childhood intros to water fun were a bit traumatic so I always love seeing someone that young having so much fun with great support and...

Re: Do swim fins generate drag significantly ?

Quick note on Viper fins fit. When I lived in Sonoma County in NorCal it was cold water all the time. I just bought up a size from that suggested by my shoe size and wore 5 mil booties in them. Perfect comfort and all the rest of the Viper benefits.

Gorilla Glue is sturdy stuff but you MUST clamp very well because it expands a lot as it reacts. And it goes off fast so be ready for that.

Can't seem to post the drawings but these will take you to them. Just found buried in my computer. Dale emailed me these at the time, years ago, summer of 2005 http://s898.photobucket.com/user/GeoffreyLevens/media/GG%20adjustable%20fin%20build/fin%20box%202_zpsypmjyfyl.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 http:/...

Re: longboard fin box in paulownia 18mm?

Unfortunately, board is long gone and I did not save photos of how I built the fin. But Dale Solomonson explained to me over the phone how to do this. Not sure if this will work with wood board but it was great on fiberglass flexspoon. You will need to build your own fin or at least add thick faring...

Re: Fins

I scored a pair of perfect condition Force Fins in a 2nd hand store in Tucson of all places. Perfect fit. Price was $2. I was looking over my shoulder to see if I'd be accused of stealing them! I liked them a lot for most comfortable of any I've ever worn. Thrust was good but both standard old schoo...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

As mentioned above, duck diving a mat is a bugger. BUT they have easily variable inflation. Paddle out very soft or empty (swim it out) if necessary, and get under white water no problem. Then a few puffs and ready to ride.

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

A surfmat might be fun in these conditions, but if you don't like side slipping, forget it In my experience, 1-2 foot mushy wind waves to 6+ ft steep but not barrels, to 4-5 foot tubes, with practice and proper inflation for the waves, side slipping is almost completely optional on a modern surfmat...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

"I did try an HPD paipo..." Never an HPD but made same outline out of plywood once. Seemed to me that the board required huge body position shifts so that my hip was always almost right on top of one rail or the other and hand on airborne rail used to drive the weighted rail into the wave ...

Or for more fun, type it in your language and translate to another and back but then copy the translation and paste to translate back and forth another time or two. Won't take many goes to end up with complete word salad.

I spent a bunch of time in Ecuador. Total slap stick comedy with officious, Kaf...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

Bob, I think he meant that it needed glass because he cut it out so that the grain runs across the width of the board to increase flex; but that weakens it considerably so--glass. I really like the look of the flex in the video/FB link. Nice and springy. Asier esnal, thin wood board like that one, t...
