The 44" Austin hasn't arrived yet. (I told Austin no hurry, since my work schedule is lousy till after the new year.)
There is also no surf here now, so work doesn't seem super painful.

Re: stand-up towin skim boarding - what next
It does show that skegs are not needed. Maybe I'll try prone tow-in HPD next.

Re: bring paipos on planes?
Bodyboards (or things in bodyboard bags) travel at regular luggage rate ($17/bag) on interisland Hawaiian flights. Surfboard rate, for two boards in a bag, is $35 on interisland Hawaiian flights. Hawaiian Airlines staff are savvy enough to know that a board under five foot with no skegs is not a sur...

Paipo rideshare
Whenever I ride my paipo, people want to know what it is and how it rides. People in lineup are always stoked to try it out. I know there are people out there who want try riding paipo, but can't find a board to ride. If you want to ride my boards, PM me. If you have boards ride, post here. Ted Aust...

Re: Where to surf in Maui?
Apparently, the Kapalua/Honolua area doesn't work with a WNW: we got some 1-2 foot hawaiian sets while O'ahu and Ho'okipa were getting bombed with double to triple overhead surf. On the plus side, none of the locals bothered to paddle out, so we had the place to ourselves. We did hear that the upper...

Re: Where to surf in Maui?
RNT808,
Where to surf next week (December 4-9) on Maui? I'll be based in Kapalua area. Scorpions was wicked and fun last December with 345-350 degree swell. Surfline forcasts a swell from 325-340 degrees next week.

Rod,
It was great surfing with you. You're lucky you got some surf early that week: surf here has been non-existent since then. Next time come two months later when chances for good surf are better.

My HPD travels in a bodyboard bag at bodyboard rates (free interisland, free on united to mainland). You can borrow my boards here on the Big Island.

The paipo results are at the end of this list. No photos, though.

Re: Board & Luggage Fees
Rod, The 44 by 20.5 by 2 inch Austin will definitely not meet the 62 inch restriction, but I am hopeful that I can pass off my paipo as a bodyboard. I've had good luck with my eBodyboarding bag on Hawaiian airlines traveling interisland and to the mainland. Hawaiian has [had?] much more lenient rule...

Re: Oahu and the Big Island
Rod,
We will have a NNE rolling through next Monday/Tuesday. Would be fun for Waipio.
I'll see if we can arrange a surf with Paul Lindbergh; he has been super helpful in my conversion from sponger to paipo rider.
Pray for NNW swell from 290 to 325 degrees.

Re: Austin paipo shared shipping to HI?
SJB, My current Austin is 50 by 20 by 2.25 and rides great as a thruster with 2 inch side bites. The 44 inch length will allow me to stick the new Austin in my bodyboard bag for travel. The reduced thickness should help duck diving without compromising paddling too much. I am hoping for a board that...

Austin paipo shared shipping to HI?
Austin is making me a new paipo (44" by 20.5 by 2"). If anyone in Hawaii is thinking about ordering an Austin Paipo, we could both save money by sharing shipping costs.

Re: Where to surf in Maui?
Paipo riders occupy a fringe niche on the Big Island. I get curious and universally positive inquiries about the HPD here. The old guys remember riding wooden craft way back when; the young guys have heard of paipo, but have never seen one. I always let guys in the lineup try my HPD.
