Re: TBG5 Step Up

Nomas....I have been having lots of fun this week at C St. on my 23 liter T4. I am confident I would have had just as much fun on on my 21.5 liter T2....if not more. I consider the larger T4's extra float handy in smaller waves...and typically like the smaller T2 in larger waves. May be counterintui...

Re: TBG5 Step Up

I am pessimistic about more length better promoting all four appendage action. On the 50 inch Austin it was a trade off between getting far enough forward to avoid a "plowing" plane with a corresponding issue as to where the board hit my legs. I.E. the further forward I was the more restri...

Re: TBG5 Step Up

Nomas...at one time I made the assumption that having all four appendages in play had to result in maximum speed. I used to apply this technique on my standard Austin. When I got the T2 (less volume) I began to question this assumption and took both boards for a time test in a 50 meter swimming pool...

Re: TBG5 Step Up

Your attention to design is always impressive Nomas....and I am hooked on my G2 and G4....but this G5 seems a strange animal. At first blush: 1. Mega float. 2. Why do I picture those gull wings catching and deep sea diving on hard turns? 3. I can't picture how one develops the leverage for a hard cu...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

My new "genius" plan....low tide El Cap is 4PM Sunday. So arrive Ocean Mesa 3:00PMish.....and assuming Skiff's Surf Gods smile on us...walk down for a late afternoon go out on the incoming tide. Return to Ocean Mesa to set up camp in a more temperate clime at 6:30 sunset. Monday morning ma...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

Ha....welcome to SoCal on a three day week-end....add hot and sunny weather and a swell.....what you gonna do. It is HOT....setting up camp tomorrow before the sun sets will be a sweat fest. The ticket for Monday is going to be in the water EARLY EARLY....there is enough light by 6:30.

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

My Jalama partner in crime bailed this morning with an upset stomach....I think it was just as well as I suspect things up there in the wilderness were likely wonky. Was in the water instead at Hammonds in SB at 6:30 to avoid the crowd. I'll give it a "B-" I am watching it right now as the...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

As a retired guy I missed that Monday is Columbus day holiday. Oh well. I am going up to Jalama tomorrow morning for a sunrise test run. It may prove too challenging for these old bones (read chiropractic adjustment). Will advise. Skiff's El Cap call may prove pure genius. What a fickle sport....may...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

The prognostications keep improving. I hope you guys aren't fed up with all my pontificating....I just can't help myself.....put it down to my enthusiasm at the prospect of meeting some like minded PaipoBoard enthusiasts. Thanks for making it all possible Rod. So....here I go again. 1. Weather is pr...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

Surfline says: "We're going to see a better round of SSW swell to move in around the 9th-11th thanks to recent storm activity tracking from southeast of New Zealand towards the central South Pacific. This system over-performed so far, with satellite confirmed seas in excess of 40-45'. Beyond th...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

Don't despair yet....although LOLA 10/11 prediction shows only 2-3 El Cap----Ventura Point shows 3-4 and Jalama shows 5-6. Keep the faith.

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?

Yes Rod the water has been crazy warm. I hope it cools down and perhaps the tropical fish will head back South. Yes...that LOLA forecast is way the heck out there...probably wishful thinking on my part. Unfortunately it offered minimal hope for El Cap swell.

Hammerhead Sharks Caught updated: Sep 23, 2015, 9:37 AM Santa Barbara fisherman Cliff Kent brought in two hammerhead sharks while pulling up his nets full of yellowtail fish Tuesday. He says the hammerheads are chasing the yellowtail and this unusual combination is linked to t...

Hey Frost....have visited Charleston a couple of times and what a great City. Can you say FOOD. Haven't checked the surf scene. Maybe next time if my wife will give me a day pass.
