Though I have seen several people kneeling and prone riding full sized, old school long boards and actually ripping smallish surf on them. Probably not doable in really big waves...rodndtube wrote:And, true, one just can't find paipo rentals!!!

Re: Bodyboards discuss (the soft paipo)
Does look like the Boogmat is plenty stiff in juice waves. Could be fun in small surf and certainly easy to transport! Looks like maybe does not roll up. Just maybe gets flatter https://hubboards.com/collections/boards/products/hubb-lite-boog-mat-large?variant=46615377283 The Hubb Lite Large Boog Ma...

Re: Inverse Rail Board
I'm thinking a couple extra layers of 4 oz. glass on deck side towards the rails in back (compression of glass in turns) might be beneficial both for longevity and also for more snappy flex of the "wings"

Re: Mermaid Tails
With entire working surface of fin(s) as single unit though, there is no chance of ankle rotation or loss of area from deformation. One big, slightly cupped surface maybe more thrust than 1/2 and 1/2 with split???

Re: Mermaid Tails
If you are going to build something from scratch you might consider creating a two piece design that could separate and be used when needed, and lock together when you wanted to swim like a mermaid (who doesn't want to do that lol). Excellent idea! Just reach down and pop a lever of some sort for e...

Re: Mermaid Tails
Step out of system would need to be designed so it remained locked on in a blender thrashing wipe out. Big fin area=lot of leverage the water will have to rip it off your feet

Re: 4'10
I feel like the concave deck makes a ridge outside of it on the rail, riding finless i'm usually over right on the rail, with my hip and elbow, would be interesting to see this ridden. I guess it would be more like greenough on a spoon. What's the board thickness in the middle? In films and stills ...

Now that's proper use of CNC tech, reproduction of a magic board!... ...and, what would be "improper" use of CNC tech? ;) Buzzing out hundreds of identical mediocre shapes using poor quality foam, then having low wage non-surfers scrub smooth and do crappy glass jobs on them. Ideally all ...

It confirms that I have no cooking clue about understanding riding an incompressible fluid wave Probably will require quantum computer modeling to even come close. The best (for now and likely for always) is your approach, intuitive experimentation based on direct experience. Pioneers may get arrow...

Re: Advice for a total beginner?
One more tip, a lot of (all???) plywood has stiff flex in one direction (down its length) and is much softer and more bendy in the other (across the width. Orient your template so the length of your board is the stiffer flex.

I don't know doodely about hydrodynamics but won't the concavity down the center, between the scrolls, since it narrows as it goes back, create a lot of drag? All concaves I have ever ridden open up towards the tail... I'd love an explanation of any theory or if you have already ridden something at ...
