Re: a good day for ear plugs

http://www.centralcoast-tourism.com/ As you can see Ron the Central Coast Tourism Council even includes you Ventura folk in the Central Coast area. Frankly I think they have overstepped their bounds a bit. In my book anyone South of Santa Barbara County is not worthy of the designation. 8-) Wow! I ...

Re: a good day for ear plugs

With closeouts, I would much rather be on my paipo than my mat. For me, the mat excels with long walls, but not closeouts :o

Re: Stop The Wave

The narration totally reminds me of "The Endless Summer". The guys on the paipos were flying. I have never heard of this movie before. Thanks as usual.

Re: Wishbone Board

Rod, My UDT fins have really nice flexible blades. My DaFins have shorter and much stiffer blades that hurt my ankles. The UDT are heavy, do not float, and I enjoy using them with a buoyant board because my body is already on top of the water. My legs stay in the water better preventing me from wast...

Re: Wishbone Board

Without a doubt the discussion of fins seems to get us all going more than board types whatever the reason be. Does anyone else have a preference for a particular fin based upon the board being buoyant like an Austin vs. neutral like an HPD or wood paipo?

Re: Wishbone Board

I use UDT fins. Make sure to use fin socks or booties and the thicker the better. Spend a little time flexing the blades before you take them out in the water. They are going to feel very different than churchills.

Re: Wishbone Board

I am sure that this is going to be a stupid question, but then I am full of them (at least full of something.) The alaia I would imagine that you do not need to paddle with swim fins. A 48" board would certainly get into waves much easier with fins on your feet. So, did you use fins? :)

Re: New T Belly Board

I live in Ventura, right next to Ojai. When you get the board let me know as we have a couple of Austins here among other paipos. We can take them all out if you like.

Re: Alaia for prone riding

My daily ride is modeled after Tom Wegener's Finley. We met at Sacred Craft a few years ago and I bent his ear for quite a while before building it. It is by far, my favorite board for surf under head high. 5' 5" X 15.5" X < 3/4" Paulownia with a Tung Oil based Salad Bowl finish. IMG...

Re: Blue Plate Special

I ride a plywood paipo and get into waves earlier than most shortboarders do. That being said, I use UDT fins, kick hard from off the board, and try to let the swells/waves energy help me get into the wave early. It helps to know the break well and watch the swell for a shift in its peak.

Re: New T Belly Board

The specs look awesome on that board. Please post some pictures of it when you get it. Also, a report on how it rides would be nice! Based upon what you said, I am assuming that you have never ridden an Austin? I love seeing just how many different designs work really well.
