Re: Need Advice on Build

Person weight could also be the factor of width and length of wood board. 250lbs person should be riding a 46"- 48" (H) x 19" - 20" width(Nose), 24" - 30" width (tail) x 3/8" thickness. This is a up-side down guitar-pick style.

Re: Buffalo"s Contest

Yep had six heats with 6-7 people per heat. Must have been almost 40 people. New rules this year compared to 2017. In 2017, rules required Paipo class entrants to be over 50 years old and / or 250lbs. For 2018 they got rid of those rules thus the large amount of entries. Was in the Paipo class and ...

Aloha, I cut and shape boards that are 3/8" thick and of course easier to control and maneuvers than thick board.

Re: Plywood paipo video

Hi there, Here is a POV video of my new plywood paipo in action: https://youtu.be/MAid5e9Dw5k and the slow motion version of the first wave: https://youtu.be/ipyeiJJWV50 Here is the board: paipo.jpg So far I am quite happy with this design. It is very easy to catch waves with, and it is easier to c...

Re: Small wave paipo

Hi, I'm wondering when it comes to a small wave board, what dimensions work better? Does it need to be longer like an alaia, or wider like a HPD style? I want to build another board for mushy onshore days Cheers Alaia is 48" inches and up. Hawaii Paipo Design has it's range on wide tail to the...

Aloha, do you have video of you charging big suf ? What kind of do you ride? Is skeg or skegless?

Very nice boards with some groovy channels and tail drops. Can these boards do spinners?

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

Is it easier for you surf with a leash? I've never seen anyone here in Hawai'i added a lanyard on their boards. Hope to see some photos clips of you in action.

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

I wanted to test the board Today, unfortunately it was very small, here is the longest wave I had: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysItAYkQ6ww So I couldn't really test the board in normal conditions, but I can tell that this board makes tiny waves very easy to catch. Nice board, cool fun wave too....

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

Don't these boards behave a lot like plywood when you lose them in that they rarely if ever get carried very far by the wave, popping back up right near you? The board generally stay pretty close if you get separated. There are exceptions, but at least you have on fins! First you need to know your ...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

Aloha, Mahalo, I'm not doing spoon boards just yet but I am working on the mould for couple of sizes. The boards that you see does have a nose-rocker with a nose contour for riders. I used to ride those type of boards before but now I just ride flat bottom. The photo you see there is a flat-bottom ...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

You direct it from the tail Do you mean it is a little bit like a bodyboard, where you really have to slice the wave's face to turn ? Also, I'm quite short, 5,5 foot, I am concerned about the board (especially this XL model) being just too big for me. Aloha, I have two XL HPD boards it's really lig...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

You got the message, using a leash will cause pull-over or drag under with the white wash. Just keep on riding your board, try using a nose pevit into the face, meaning shallow breaks try lifting outter rail n nose diving along the bottom face of the wave. To deep of a dive will hit the reef, got to...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

I received the board, I m impressed by the width  As expected it doesn t have a leash plug. Do you think that gluing a classic surf leash plug would work ? Aloha, adding a leash-plug would have to be a custom made plug. The smallest (thickness) surf plug is 1/2" thick, how thick is your b...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

This may be a bit late, hope your board is still available. I ride HPDs about 90% of the time and like them a lot (obvs). I'm 5'6" and rode the XL for about 10 years and then switched to the mini. I like it better but I would recommend the XL too. I use a leash, no need to get into that issue ...
