Re: Vote for Me!!!

Rod,

looks like you are just 2 votes behind now. It's a 2 horse race unless someone else makes a late surge.

Re: Hydrodynamica: Remember the Future

Speaking of designs that resemble paipo. I came across this Hawaiian feather cape which reminded me of a HPD.
It reportedly was given to James Cook, the English navigator.

Re: Credit where credit is due (rant).

Digging around the articles, I think Poobah and possibly Uncle G (apologies if it was someone else) started the paper trail thread. Rod has to be given credit for his pages/forum - if not for his efforts a search for paipo would have brought up cigars. Have to also credit the bodyboard guy who spark...

My latest 2 sets of fins made by Huie from Swaylocks. Haven't had them out in decent surf yet.

Re: hello from a new paipoboard rider

Soulglider, I'd like to see the photos of the thin finless glass boards sometime. Hydroskiper, Send me a pm or go to the bottom of http://home.brisnet.com.au/~bgreen/bgpa ... html#intro and you'll find my e-mail address. When we go to Vic, if it's not work related, my wife likes two days in the city...

Re: hello from a new paipoboard rider

BJ, I liked the welsh photos and your historic finds. I suspect there are a few sheds in Victoria with these boards stashed away. Here are two links to old photos of these boards being ridden in Victoria: http://museumvictoria.com.au/collections/items/1689719/digital-photograph-two-girls-three-men-w...

Re: hello from a new paipoboard rider

Hello Hydro-Skiper,

I believe there is a paipo rider on PI and BJ is on the west coast. Jamie Farfor surfed around the Mornington Peninsula and made paipo in the 60s based on the Paipo Nui boards.

I'm hoping to do a day trip to PI or the peninsula in May, as a side trip to Lorne.

Re: Something different

I've asked three surfboard shapers to make me paipo. Two of these guys worked out really well. But, it required me to know what I wanted and they did fine tuning. The third guy reckoned he got some foam but didn't have the time to work on what I wanted. I think it would be harder to just go to a sha...

Re: Something different

Cuttlefish, Let me know how you get on &the cost. A guy from the gold coast was wanting a paipo and was having trouble getting one shaped. He'd been quoted $1000. I suggested he try Tony Dragan up your way - a kneeboarder I know said Tony was willing to experiment. The fishfry site has lots of i...

Dick van Straalen is a respected shaper of many decades experience. He's the guy who shaped the next big thing board.

It's a wonder more people don't get injured riding waves like these. Good luck to them. It must be amazing to ride a wave like these, but, you have to be prepared to pay the price.

Cuttlefish, I bought yellow dot vipers at a bodyboard shop at Burleigh. Not sure if they only have 7s. http://www.burleighbodyboardshop.com.au/ You could try http://www.bodyboardshop.com/ I ordered UDTs from the US (before the Oz dollar improved). Sizing is a bit difficult. I ground them down a bit ...

I didn't see any such boards on his site but he does offer good surfing advice: "Most importantly though, be good to one another in the water. We are all out there to do the same thing."
