Re: Fin recommendations

I bought a set of fins yesterday because I wanted to see if a different fin would more easily allow turns at speed. The previous fins were foiled both sides and wanted to go straight ahead while I wanted to turn. So they were cut right down and while an improvment, I wanted to know if I could do be...

Re: Paipo rideshare

Good thread to start-up, Ted. Both Ted and I enjoyed sharing out board with a sponge stoker near Kailua-Kona, Big Island, back in early November. Both of our boards were very similar Austins, 50" RPM Checkered models. Ted's was the Black/Red. How do you like your new 44" version? Austin Ba...

Re: A difference between designing a paipo and other boards

My early boards from way back when had more thickness in the back, albeit they were not very thick boards, however, I noticed that I tended to be forward on the board and the thickness in the rear of the board provided too much float back there. Still a decent place for greater thickness, just not t...

Re: A difference between designing a paipo and other boards

Rod, You're not getting away with a quick answer. Specifically, how do reckon rocker, rail design and skegs differ? Difference in planing spot - ok, where do you think it should be - further forward? Of course, this will vary with board length etc. Bob Rocker is the first part of the equation and w...

Re: A difference between designing a paipo and other boards

Quick answer: through board rocker, through board rail design and fins (skegs). One of the biggest mistakes found when stand-up or knee board shapers make a paipo is the misunderstanding of where the center of gravity is for a paipo (or bodyboard). Where the board planning sweet spot is critical for...

Re: Fin recommendations

Fins have come a long, long way since the mid-50s. Really kind of hard to believe that fins were hardly used before the 1940s. Looking at the evolution of fins over the past six decades and picking our the right fit for your board is maybe one of the most bewildering processes. Well... maybe I overs...

Re: Are there any Commercial Paipos available on the market

For any number of reasons the terms paipo and belly board are probably indistinguishable. Not to me they aren't. This distinction was what was actually prevalent in the 1960's: A paipo is thin and skegless. A bellyboard is like the Austin that you ride. Thick and foamy with fins sticking out the bo...

Re: Are there any Commercial Paipos available on the market

I was meaning paipos that are built by a paipo company and not a surfboard factory that dabbles in other craft. I was just wondering if anyone had started a business just to build paipos? I'll check out the link, thanks for that ! Does the Belly Bogger pass as a paipo ? The Belly Bogger certainly q...

Re: Fin recommendations

Here are the fins I have been using. They are Futures T1 twin fins. They have 4.8 bases and 5.15 height. They hold really well and seem to turn ok. This is first time I have had fins in 30 years, so I am pretty new. I am also getting used to riding a bigger board. I am going to try some smaller Al ...

Re: Are there any Commercial Paipos available on the market

Austin Saunders has made 200+ paipos over the past 3 years so these boards are very much part of his product line. Austin also advertises paipo boards on his website along with other vertical surfing models. So, definitely one of the hybrid producers. Several of the mainstream board builders of the ...

Re: Are there any Commercial Paipos available on the market

Maybe Paipo Nui. There are some contemporary builders that meet your criteria like HPD and the UK builders of "traditional surfboards. Well if you're gonna include Val Valentine's Paipo Nui then you should also include Aussie Jamie Farfor's boards. Interesting essay by Jamie on his production ...

Re: Are there any Commercial Paipos available on the market

In the 1960s there were a few: El Paipo, Newport Paipo and House of Paipo come to mind. Maybe Paipo Nui. There are some contemporary builders that meet your criteria like HPD and the UK builders of "traditional surfboards." Some of the contemporary wood builders make paipos of one kind or ...

Re: Are there any Commercial Paipos available on the market

Not sure what you mean by "commercial" but not hand made ones. Do you mean built in production quantities for sale as well as built by hand (e.g., many of the non-machine made surfboards at your local surf shop)? Or do you mean assembly line built such as the pop-outs of yesteryear and the...

Re: Holiday Fundraiser Help

They don't appear if you have AdBlock installed unless you disable AdBlock for the page. The ads don't stand out that much....look near the very bottom, "AdChoices" or something should appear to the right. That is correct about not standing out -- try to not have the paipo pages overcome ...

Any Day ClickIt Fundraiser Help

Please help sustain the MyPaipoBoards.org website throughout the year by clicking on the Google advertisement banner adverts appearing at the bottom of most of the paipo web pages (there are not any advert banners on the forums pages). It helps if you click through an advertisement with a couple of ...
