New handplane, first alaia, paipo mods

So, I haven't been able to get on here in a while, so I figure I'll just lump everything I've been up to into one topic.

Over the winter I decided to hack down the tail of my favorite plywood paipo, converting it to a fish tail, I also refined the shape of the nose. These were HUGE improvements in maneuverability. Then I added some pinstripe graphics and more varnish over the top.

The hand plane is made from some pretty well aged pine with a cedar handle. I've had the rough design for this in my head for quite some time, there is a groove under the leading edge of the handle for extra room for your fingers. I've had it out in some 3 to 4 foot and I gotta say, I bloody LOVE it. I can't wait to get it out in some bigger shyt.

I tested out the alaia on the same day as the handplane, and the jury is still out because it'll need more more juice to get it going. I got a few good "slide-ass" prone rides on it though. It's 7' 7" - 19" wide and less than 8 lbs.

Are the two holes where a handle or strap was?

Bob, if you mean on the plywood paipo, no - those are just screw holes that were already in the plywood when I found it on the side of the road. ;}

really nice looking work and surfcraft!
wondering about the handle.. is it a solid piece or "modular"?
also, how was it attached to the deck?
currently using handle's on my paipo boards and they work really well.

Dr., The handle is a solid piece of red cedar. I glued it on with epoxy, figuring if it ever shows any sign of coming loose I can reinforce it with some screws or dowels... but for now it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Surffoils, Thanks! I've been practicing at pinstriping lately, definitely some 50's / 60's hot-rod influence.
