New (to me) stuff on Tom Wegener's site
Just went to Tom's site to check what he does on length for prone alaia. Found this on a "new" model pretty interesting

A long conversation with Tom at a Sacred Craft event several years ago is what led to my getting hooked on the Alaia type boards.
If you ride prone, you sould have at least one.

Paipo surfer in repose,
Nose on the nose,
No grunting he-man pose.
See how fast he goes!
What is it he knows?

That's very interesting I had not seen his updated board
What's very interesting to me is that when I did my first board 6 years ago I basically took his hull design from the seaglass tuna https://www.theinertia.com/surf/tom-weg ... ss-projec/ and applied to a bodyboard sized template.
so it's very exciting to see that when he has applied his designs to this now shorter "bodyboard" he has basically come up with the design I have been riding.
He even has the half chine rail I ended up with which was initially forced as it was the way to make the rail shaping flow better, and after it worked so well i kept it.
Not sure what he talking about with reverse rocker though, a friends bodyboard warped to reverse rocker and all it did was try to nose dive.

The "big wave surfie" looks interesting, although I find that mixing foam and wood is a strange idea.

There's nothing particularity strange about a composite design.
I had one made by Tom but have only surfed it in very small conditions. I'm planning to surf it over Easter. Mine has a cork deck, wood bottom.
I have another composite board that if foam and cork. A fun board but a tad thin.

If you see cork as foam and wood as fiberglass then all you have is the natural forerunner of the toxic version we gravitated too.

Thanks for the plan pictures of toms design, IMO it looks to be very much leaning towards speeds down the line at the sacrifice or maneuverability.bgreen wrote:There's nothing particularity strange about a composite design.

I would like to try my own design in cork and paulownia, on initial thoughts a difficult board to make hard to get the bottom contours as I would like them from on the wood.

The Indonesian photo suggested that as well but that was also what I was looking for. I could ask about a wider shaper, more curved outline.

Sounds like foam more than cork.
Having said that, I have nothing against composite designs, it is just something I have never considered (beeing not a shaper) .

Re: New (to me) stuff on Tom Wegener's site
I recently rode the board in 3-4+ waves. It drew a nice line and turned easy enough. It had a lot of flex.
