Anyone know anything about these? I've had this for over 50 years and I got it used. Any info is appreciated including rarity, value etc.
Thanks

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
If you've had it 50 years that would place it near new based on this ad (International Surfing, V1, #6). Not sure how long they were being produced before then. Given the manufacturer they sound mass produced. Not sure what it's worth, does it surf any good?
It would be interesting to see a close-up of the logo and see the bottom. Thanks.

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
I lived on Long Island when I got this.
I'm an old longboarder living in Cape Canaveral now.
Thanks for your interest and the photo of the ad!

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
Somehow (don't ask me how!), I must have missed this advert in International Surfing. Maybe the Nina Cherry article on p. 60 distracted me! Or, I overlooked a missing page. I did see the same advertisement in Petersen's Surfing, v01 n07 p52, 1964-Sept. (Note: International Surfing, v01n06p50 is the full page beginning of the Paipo Nui article.bgreen wrote:If you've had it 50 years that would place it near new based on this ad (International Surfing, V1, #6). Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
Here is what I pulled out of my magazine database which will give you an idea about timeframe. For some reason all my "hits" are for Petersen's Surfing Magazine. The Mouse was produced by the same company that produced the Bon Aire belly/skimboard (Samuel Larner aka Jack's Surfboard Shop, 102 N. Main Street, Huntington Beach, CA). The Bon Aire advertisements appear to have had a longer and wider press run than The Mouse. As shown below in the list below, two dedicated Mouse advertisements appeared and the Mouse Bellyboard was also included in three Jack's Surfboard Shop adverts.
All of the entries below are for Petersen's Surfing Magazine:

Great stuff! Thanks for digging it out for me. I may get around to selling it. If I do I'll list it here first.

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
That thing is rad!! Seems like it was ahead of it's time. Were other people doing concave bottoms on boards during that era? If it wasn't for the skeg, you could ride that board either way. Might even work better tail forward. I have a plywood paipo that has a similar shape to the Mouse board turned tail up. Can you post the dimensions of the board please?

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
This one came up on Ebay some time ago. I think one of the guys in the Longboard Collectors Club (Cali) ended up with it. Is it a backyarder? Is it an early Mouse prototype? The logo says Custom Surfboards by Goldie. I seem to recall in the paipo interviews, that Romo mentioned making his own version of the Mouse one time. No Fin. So it could be ridden either way.

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
This Watney supposedly was made in the mid sixties in San Diego's North County. Not a sawed off board. It was supposedly shaped to be a bellyboard. The logo was a paper napkin from a bar that was nearby the surf factory or garage. Was it inspired by Mouse mania? We may never know.

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
The Bellyfest meet in Pacific Beach in 2008. A very nice Mouse was on display. It was not for sale. Bad photo. You can barely see the board with the green rails on the far right. It looks like a text logo. Sorry...maybe a 1.2 megapixel camera back then. I can't remember if it had a fin or not. Arrrr. I'm still looking for more pictures.
So, ya. The Mouse boards are rare. There might be a few different logos. Perhaps some are more rare than others. If they don't get sold often, then they are hard to price. The cartoon version of the logo would make a cool t-shirt. The world needs more bellyboard t-shirts.

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
It's 44" in length. The widest part is 21" and the tail is about 10".
I don't remember ever riding it on Long Island where I lived at the time. It sat in my parent's attic for many years. It's now a wall hanger in my Cape Canaveral condo. Florida waves are not usually conducive for paipos and belly boards. I know I won't ride it. My board of choice is an 11'0 Munoz.

The board is now on eBay:

Waveman emailed me several hi-rez pics for safe keeping. Basically, no real new detail in the ones he sent me, simply a couple more perspectives.
