as soon a i wrote my above post i thought, hey, hey, since i'm only using the board for a week or less (usually), why even use finish on it?

i just evolved a little, and without any pain!

You got that right... NOT HAPPY!!!

That suitcase sized wood paipo you're suggesting would be more the size of a hand gun given today's travel bag rules.

I travel lite this and a pair of fins and a surf mat in one bag this is all you need you can buy yourself a tooth brush at the airport

I don't want a board that comes in 3 pieces. I just want one that slides like a trombone.

Then there are the folks who like foam, but not fins.

It appears that the joining sections were exposed foam and not fiberglassed but I really couldn't tell.

BobG, I have seen a couple of your photos but they were mostly lo-resolution. How has that board been holding up in a wide range of wave conditions? How does the integrity of the joint hold up under stress (e.g., big wave slams)?

I can send better photos. The board has been surfed in very solid sized reef breaks (SW France, Ireland) including some quite choppy as well as windy offshore days. No problems at all.

Just cuz I tease don't mean I ain't interested. Sounds like a worthwhile idea if that's yer style.

Visible in the photo is one of two carbon fibre tubes - about 19 3/4" long, one set is about 1mm thick, the set I use is about 3mm thick. Each rod has a small hole in it, to reduce suction when removing. Ends are slightly rounded.

The black is a thin strip of rubber, cushioning the join and forming a seal.

The larger diameter hole, takes the male part form the other half, while th esmaller hole has a thread and takes the stainless bolt that is screwed in 45 degrees from the side. These same fittings are found on the other side of the second rod.

Here is the opposite side - visible is the male part and bolt hole. Rubber seal, is only on the upper half.

Photo of rail shows where the bolt is screwed in - note stainless steel.

Second photo is the actual bolt/screw.

Here is the board showing the tubes. Also visible is the 2 male parts. The board is a slightly thicker version of a John Galera Nofin, thicker to hold the tubes.
