I thought most spoon kb's had all the foam on the rails? Forget his name off hand, but there is a guy in San Diego who made kneelos that did have all the foam in the middle (knee wells etc) and just glass blade out at the rails but he went flat bottom. How do you mean, "reverse spoon"?

What I learned from Dale was that more recent iterations of GG design was torsional flex is what really gives you drive and any more than minimal longitudinal flex creates drag. A little long was is ok but if you have good snappy torsional flex that will change your rocker line in a turn but not bog the way longitudinal will.

Rereading your post, maybe we are talking about the same thing ie you want longitudinal flex but only on the rails?

We are not only on the same page but in the same sentence! "Twist like a dish towel" flex is a spot on image.

I love the simplicity and low cost of plywood but this twist-o-flex is something you can really dial in w/ fiberglass

Feb/March issue of Ocean ( the SD county fishwrap) had a nice intervew with GG.
He'd gotten to the point where he was actually wearing out and/or breaking his fiberglass spoons and having to rebuild them every few months.
He eventually went to Epoxy and Carbon Fiber. Result being a major reduction in weight and no more overstressed or broken boards.
Hexcell gave him the material in exchange for the feedback.

Very different flex characteristcs as well w/ carbon-epoxy, stiffer, snappier, better memory

I understand what GeofferyLevens is saying about torsional flex at the wave face isnt flat so an amount of torsion would allow the craft to conform better to the wave face but I dont get the " load up and SPRING concept"?
Sure i see how a wooden ruler flexes but it springs back when theres no pressure. In the water theres always pressure under a board because of the weight of the rider and gravity so a board never has free reign to Spring.
As the forces increase a board flexes and as the forces reduce the board un-flexes in line with the forces upon it.
But its never devoid of the forces that keep the board on the water.

I used to ride stand-up spoons aka hulls, shaped by various shapers. And I can tell you there is a feeling, coming out of the hole, that you just do not get on more conventional shapes including thrusters. A very different kind of acceleration feeling that does feel, in the case of more rigid stand-up boards, like the fin is helping push you forward by snapping back to its "relaxed" positon.
