Great design as always. Do those side wings increase speed or decrease it?

Re: PhillyViking & Atlantasurfer have been making some boards...

Hi Guys. I did make a board this summer, but I wasn't sure if I should post it on the forums as it is mostly just a variation of the boards I have been doing for a couple of years. This old board, the Frankenboogie mk. II was just dying of loneliness in the backyard shed.https://mypaipoboards.org/fo...

I can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm sure someone around here has good advice for bending Paulownia.

Re: PAIPO Foils.

Forgive me if these questions have been answered elsewhere, but I would like to attempt a plywood version of a simple foil board. I have always been intrigued by Gilbert Lum's creation. Should the foil go under my center of mass? Some designs have the foil more to the rear. Do heavier riders need mo...

Am I asking for too much?

Unlike most of you guys, I live a long ways from the ocean and surf when my work schedule allows it. With that in mind, I try to have a variety of gear to fit different conditions. The only time I feel jealous of the SUP and longboard hordes is when waves are small and closing out. In that case I re...

This video is pretty cool:

I use a bigger board. At 230-240 pounds I'm weighing in at 1.5 Wegeners.

Re: Need Advice on Build

Rod, I wish I did have some video of me working my small surf Florida magic! I have had great luck with my 5'11" (or thereabouts) Alaia style board. 1/2" thick plywood works well for me, and it is pretty bomb proof. I also love using a 5'4" mini-simmons as a Paipo. I just had my ding ...

Re: What are you riding at the moment?

I use my legs to catch the waves, with a little bit of arm assist as the wave is beginning to lift me up (if that makes sense).

Re: What are you riding at the moment?

I do ride it prone. I wouldn't say it is faster than other boards, but I think the extra volume makes catching waves easier. The spot is usually small and weak and packed with SUPs and long boarders. I can't sit as far out as them, but i do want to get the wave as early as possible.

Re: What are you riding at the moment?

I just got back from surfing Florida using a board I call "The Truck." It is a 5'4'' mini-Simmons with twin keels. Here is a look at what I was surfing Saturday. Some Of the cleanest, longest waves I've ever had in Florida. The photographer didn't take any pics of me, but I was right there...

Design Advice

I am getting ready to create a new board, and I want to get some opinions/advice. Last spring I made Black Betty, as seen in this thread: https://mypaipoboards.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=681 I love this board. It works well in chest high and smaller waves. But, it consistently pearls in bigg...

Re: simmons type stand up for belly riding?

A few years ago, I picked up a used simmons-shape standup surfboard. I love it as a paipo. It works great when the waves get sloppy and mushy. I have limited days at the beach, so I try to be ready to surf a wide range of conditions. My only complaint is that the board is not really compatible with ...

Florida surf report.jpg There is still uncrowded surf in Florida. Here is a pic from today's surf report at my normal spot. I wish I was there, but I'm in Georgia earning a living... In August I scored some fantastic tropical storm waves. Because we were not at a marquee spot, me and my friends had...
