Re: SDF No3 paulownia wood board
Sorry to crash your thread Krusher, Hi Bob. had a quick standup play on Pam, but to tell the truth she was a bit of a disappointment up here in the far north. came through very quickly and didn't get a hell of a lot of play time. I sort of blew it and went to the wrong place. Its also on the opposit...

Re: SDF No3 paulownia wood board
now you're talking - lanolin protects and seals the timber. But paulownia is very durable and waterproof in saltwater anyway. - Lanolin also has the added bonus of going sticky in salt water - no wax. Find a wool scourer, ask for a bottle of raw lanolin, they'll give it away. Industrial lubrication....

well, went on a bit of a whim and purchased it. bidding got a bit stiff towards the end, but managed to get it for $94 nz. which really is pretty cheap. now to work out how to get it here..... its only about 15 hrs drive away.

Re: is it or isn't it? please have a look
thanks Bob, i've asked those questions, it will be interesting to see if i get a reply. i have my doubts to its authenticity due to the fact it seems shaped as a true alaia in native new zealand timber, in the 20's-30's someone would have had to have had a real knowledge of that shape, and new zeala...

Hi guys, i've just been sent this on new zealands answer to ebay. the guy says 1920's, does anyone agree and is it worth buying as a bit of an investment?

Re: bellyboard for BIG guy
Hi guys, a bit more info for the bigger fellas ...... sorry to upset all - but its summer here. I've just come back from 2 weeks up north with the family. Didn't take a standup board. Just had fun on the paipos. two boards - one the Jeff inspired mega(ish) platter, my god its fast, drop bottom turn ...

Re: bellyboard for BIG guy
Gidday Gorilla surfer, I'm also a big fella. I'm 6'3" and about 260lbs. My boards are a bit bigger. I tried a Jeff Chamberlain type mega platter and although it was very fast and made huge sections - it was impossible to duck dive. I'm now surfing a board with a plan shape more like Thomas Patr...

Re: New Deck Pad from Covepads
I've also got one on one of mine, i really like it, yes it probably adds a bit of float - i don't really know having put the pad on before its maiden voyage. But i think in my case its more to do with the boards nose holding as much volume as a longboard  . I've found it a great pad and certainl...

Re: T-Belly Generation 2
i agree with you Thomas, people seem to be hung up on liters of volume. i recently had a guy (another bat fastard like myself) come to me wanting some design help on a timber skinned board (stand up) - wanted 100 to 110 L volume - fine. but he wanted it 23" wide and 4 1/2" thick, and a pre...

Re: Cork deck
you could try lanolin - sheep's wool oil, a guy in aussie (grant newby ) oils his timber boards with it. also has the added benefit of going sticky in salt water.

Re: Wanting to build my first board and not sure about size
giday Simon, do you ever head up north? I've a couple of boards I've made that would float you. drop me a line if you are interested. you're more than welcome to have a go. I'm not quite your size 126kgs but either of these boards would be fine. cheers - Justin justingee@xtra.co.nz

Re: Cork deck
Corecork is what the standup guys use in their compsand builds. cut the pad for size. put on the board - trace around - mask off - then spray the areas you want glued with a can of 3m aerosol 66 adhesive (i think its called 66 - i can check my can tomorrow if you want) and the reverse side of the co...

:D getting a few "stand up and be counted" and a few "paraplegic" or "mega cripple" taunts myself - all in good nature though - i'm bigger than them  ........ if you're powered by the wave - you're surfing. although we did have a couple of learner suk (sup) pil...

Re: uss starship enterprise
"shabby chic" i call it bloody horrible! never mind, it will do its job however it looks. yes thinner and lighter is definitely i think the idea. i don't want to dump the idea of the bigger mega platter type boards yet, but they have their drawbacks thats for sure. I'm hoping with the narr...

Re: uss starship enterprise
went for a pretty small wave yesterday, about 2-3' - about head high standing up! i probably had about 8 waves, took awhile to get used to it. i just didn't have my weight far enough forward, by the time i started getting it i was knackered and it was getting dark. duck diving - umm - just about for...

fins forward
airboy808 asked an interesting question on soulgliders thread about his board, that i'm wondering if any of you wise ones out there read. "Thinking bumping quad fronts to 14.5" for fronts. Rears not sure yet. Figure moving quads up like Ozzie kneeboards will loosen it up at the rear"....
