Re: River Surfing Paipos & Bellyboards

Well made and cool looking boards. That bench is just what you need to make these boards. Whether in the surf or river, these boards need some push, because of their low volume. A simple piece of wood can be a lot of fun, though harder work if there is a current or a long paddle.

Thanks Nomas. The wide point is an issue often not given enough thought.

Re: Duckdiving tips for plypo newbie (& boards built)

You may have resolved this question. Low volume boards duckdive easily, though require a good set of legs to deal with currents and long distances. The paipo nui style boards actually get a glide going underwater. Finless boards of low bouyancy are hard to arm paddle in a traditional sense. One arm ...

Re: Strip plank build

I asked Global Ernie, he suggested: "I think the simplest approach is to buy one 8x4 sheet of 3mm marine ply. Cut into four pieces 4 x 2 and then use the glue up process to form whatever rocker/nose/tail lift you desire, the glue will hold the curve permanently. Draw on your plan shape and cut ...

I read some reviews, complaints about weight and small sizing.

How does the overall length compare to a Churchill and Duckfeet?

Re: Monolith 2001: XLPE

Thanks Bill.

It only needs to last a few days. I wasn't thinking of sandwich as all this needs to fit into a suitcase.

Where do you buy your XLPE? My searches seem to only identify cable suppliers.

do you know if you could ride a board of Divinycell and wood, without fibreglassing it?

Re: Adding Cork Deck

I ride a couple of boards with cork decks. The decks certainly get wet but on a fibreglass board I've not noticed an appreciable increase in weight. Conversely, on a thin board I don't think there would be a significant increase in flotation.

Pohnpei sure looks nice, but I'm committed to a Mentawi trip, near where Thumpa has in mind.

Re: Paepo’o - my boards

I was curious about the white butterfly like shapes on the boards (like bow tie pasta, farfelle). On one board they look like stitches across a crack.
Is this there function or is it design? They look heavy or are thye lighter than they look. Either way, looks like you're having fun on them.

Re: Calf cramping

It really isn't a simple story. There is a large literature on this: https://journals.lww.com/acsm-csmr/fulltext/2008/07001/muscle_cramps_during_exercise_is_it_fatigue_or.9.aspx "And as empirical evidence grows, it is becoming increasingly clear that there are two distinct and dissimilar genera...
