Help me shape this board
It's a piece of local paulownia, which they call princess tree here in NC. Anyway, it's 1" thick. The short side in the picture is 38" long, the long side is 48". Width is around 17". The edges taper a little due to the log it was cut from. I got this from a friend who builds fur...

Re: Paipo Building Advice
krusher has it right. I have a log, a 9'8 Weber, and it's easy, esp as I don't surf a lot, to have my position off. What feels natural usually is wrong. But once I hit the perfect glide point, and that sort of feels like the nose is a bit too far down, the glide is amazing. I have my paipo dailed in...

Re: Paipo volume and bouyancy
Flojo, I have a standard 50" Austin and can duckdive it just fine. I'm 5'11" and 197#. I just lean forward, push the nose down then let my body follow. No issues at all. The key is to get deep enough....worked for in central america despite a good sized (and beefy) swell, on the east coast...

Viper V5 yellow dots $35 plus shipping.
I have pair of XL yellow dots, which should fit 11-13. I wear a wide 13 and these won't work for me. Took them out once on Hatteras, wore for maybe 30 minutes. They've been in the closet ever since. New they're around 60.00 plus shipping. Front says "PSS South-Swell" then "VIPER"...

GoPro placement on paipo
I'm going to be getting a FCS plug put in on my paipo so I can attach a GoPro to it. The board is an austin, shaped like this one. About where should I put the plug? I was thinking 6" back, 2" or so off the stringer.

Pretty board. Hopefully there will be swell between now and FL so you can give it a solid workout.

Re: Help me pick boards out of this wood
How about a redwood stringer that's 4" or so wide? That will give me some width. Just glue the hell out of it.

Re: Help me pick boards out of this wood
5'11 and under 200#. When I first rode a paipo I had both elbows down, which didn't feel right. I then rode how I rode bodyboards, which was one arm down and the other up so the hand is on the rail to control it. I'm going to make some designs on cardboard sheet then lay them onto the board so I can...

Re: Help me pick boards out of this wood
15 to 16 wide ok?
I've never worked with it either. It's very light, that board is around 8'x16" and I can hold it up with one hand, no straining.
I am thinking of cutting a small chunk off and sanding it to see how it looks. The person I got it from uses it in inlays on furniture.

Help me pick boards out of this wood
It's paulownia from a local tree. Around here they call it "princess tree". I picked the plank up last year and never did anything with it. I thought about making an alaia out of it but I prefer prone riding. There are two possible boards here. One would be around 44x15x1/2, the other 36 (...

Re: Old skool paipo boarders get GoPros
I have a link somewhere about making one. Saw a vid of a bodyboarder who had one, it was pretty sweet. Mounted to the front or back to give a nice angle. The one I saw used some PVC. Having all of that staff next to you will make wipeouts more fun. Now you have to avoid 3 fins and a section of pipe.

We should do what they do in Chicago - bus people in, setup FB accounts for them, then give them a dollar and a cigarette in exchange for a vote.

sealing plywood
What do you guys recommend for sealing non marine ply? I am going to make a few plywood boards from some 3/8" that isn't marine grade....I don't want to spend a lot on marine ply (at least not yet).
