Re: Thin build, flexible with strength.
Personally, the idea of a thinner wife excites me more. I am not sure that if the rails are kept thin, that having a thicker body might be more advantageous ( rolled bottom effect ) than just super thin and flat; which bring me right back to the wife effect!

Re: First Build
Hi Tom,
They will all work great. Each design may have subtle differences, but probably very subtle. Pick which one you like best; not really sure if there is an advantage to a tail design that is not square - watch out for points, they can hurt you. Super choice in wood.

Re: Asymmetrical vs Symmetrical swim fins
What do you guys think about asymmetrical vs asymmetrical swim fins? Personally, I like symmetrical swim fins. They don't torque my ankles. My boards do not have skegs and I have no problem holding into waves. If anything, many times I pull my feet out of the water to reduce drag to gain speed if I...

Re: Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP
I have lots of different paipos as of now, but have always come back to the HPD XL. The new XP, I would love a go at, along with all of the othe HPDs too.

I am no wood worker, but no problem with 1/2" thickness.

Airboy,
How does the rocker on the Paipo Nui compare with the HPD? ( Sorry if off topic!)

Bob,
A year ago Dale emailed me that he had suffered another major heart attack. He was still in the hospital then. I do not know which one in Oregon, but I have not heard anything since.

The amount of maintenance required is negligible and that means a lot coming from me! I know nothing about working with wood nor do I have the patience.

Re: HPD Flex Paipos - Small
Thanks for the wonderful pics and ride report. I have been curious about a little flex in the HPD, but that was an insane amount! I came to paipos from mats that Dale made me. The feel of each is so different, but then it is between different mats as well as different paipos. Please keep us informed...

Re: Finless or Not?
There seems to be a movement asserting that finless boards are every bit as capable as finned boards. 576075_159667017525156_971047477_n[1].jpg Many in the wood bellyboard community also make this assertion. I remain unconvinced. Granted, very thin rails on a 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch wood board possess...

Re: Ab unexpected paipo hookup in Indo
Oh... we have had some heated discussions on this topic! Krusher....I have always thought a paipo was a type of body board. No? I have an Austin. Impressed in the board by Austin is the word "paipo". If someone asks me what it is I typically say a paipo....and then elaborate that a paipo ...

Re: Bottom Shapes Of Simple Wood Paipos
Rod,
No they are not the same length and width. The rails on this board were made much thicker ( approx. 1/2"). The maneuverability is great but it is definitely slower.

Re: Bottom Shapes Of Simple Wood Paipos
I agree that the Malami Kai allows much easier turning and top to bottom surfing than does the HPD. I also think that it is faster than the HPD in the case of my first Xylem. The HPD I believe is faster than my second Xylem. Last month I was out in some rough DOH+ surf. I really wish that I had the ...

Re: Rails
For those of you that have used 1/2" thick wood and planed the rails to 1/4", how big of a difference in hold do you notice compared to just squaring them off? What other differences are there, good or bad?
