Re: Godspeed Paipo # 1

I agree that in terms of maneuverability, the floatty bodyboard for instance is far superior to plywood boards. I like to go fast down the line on small waves, so I am willing to sacrifice maneuverability to the benefit of pure speed (or at least the feeling of it), I think that's why I am happy wit...

Re: Godspeed Paipo # 1

There are some posts that mention volume as being important, but then say nothing more. In surfing it's like THE thing to discuss, and there are charts and calculators for Africa talking about volume. Volume is crucial in standup surfing, I agree, but in prone surfing it is different, mostly the pl...

Atlantasurfer and uncle grumpy, do you have some videos of your long narrow wooden boards in action ?

Re: Need Advice on Build

It works for many people... on this forum atlantasurfer and uncle grumpy come to mind. Many others as well. Of course, that wave in the YouTube was also holding up a good distance as well! Indeed the wave is holding up a good distance :D Having a closer look on the video, it seems that the front ha...

Re: Need Advice on Build

I wish I had a wood board that would work as a prone "longboard" in small mushy waves, but I haven't found one yet.
Perhaps an alaia inspired board like this ?
https://youtu.be/lw0vSU8Do-M

Maybe one day I'll try a very long plywood board based on the same shape.

Re: French Paide fins

I bought this model of fins (Pride V1 flex) recently, oversized so it doesn't hurt to wear tick winter socks with it.
They are more confortable than my dafins. This is my first pair of asymetric fins, I like them a lot.

Re: Need Advice on Build

Not sure that a very buoyant board is necessarily the solution. My narrow plywood finless flat board (neutral flotation) works ok in conditions that seems similar to those you described: https://youtu.be/EVWwCZgZnzc I noticed that a long narrow flat board works better in small closeouts, no side sl...

Re: Need Advice on Build

Do you have a video showing the kind of waves you plan to ride on the paipo ?

Re: Bodyboards discuss (the soft paipo)

A good alternative would be a epoxy/fiberglass paipo covered with a soft top, I have a surf boards like that.
It is nice because you can feel that it is stiff, heavy and won't bend under pressure, but it won't hurt you.

Re: Superman board design

I tested a funny stance today, a variant of the superman one. I would call it the canonball stance, just like the superman stance my body is very forward on the board (the head is above the water), but instead of outstrech the inside arm, I just keep both arms along the body, sometimes I let the ins...

Do you have any video of the boards in action ? They look great and the design is intriging, I am very curious to see them in the surf.

Re: my first paipo 44

A video would be great indeed !
Regarding the leash, you can also use a regular surf leash, since a short bodyboard coiled leash may be dangerous in case of wipeout (the board may hit you harder than a bodyboard).

Re: Superman board design

Tell me about dreams, recently I had this weird dream where I was riding a big hollow wave, stand up...on a scooter. I really had the feeling of holding into the face, even though I know it would be impossible in real life it was very realistic and really fun :D If one day I decide to have a tatoo I...

Make a board just a little shorter and it would fit into a bodyboard bag :)

Re: my first paipo 44

The rounded edge looks safer, but in case of a brutal collision with a human body the aluminum won't break or bend.
Why aluminum by the way ?

Re: Superman board design

I had a nice session last weekend, I used a plywood board with a simple template, parralel rails, finless, no leash, long and narrow, 16x47". I was used to the delta shape (like the HPD), but I found that this long and narrow shape worked better for the kind of waves I surf (mostly beachbreak closeo...

Re: my first paipo 44

Very nice boards, I like the blue one :)
But I keep thinking that you should replace these aluminium fins by regular fins, much less dangerous.
Maybe even try with no fins at all, just to see how it works ?

Re: Superman board design

I really like this move too (in small waves!), it gives you the feeling of bodysurfing and maybe flying too. I think it works great as long as the board has neutral buoyancy. In this video I do it on a plywood board, that has a bodyboard shape: https://youtu.be/ItqWdJPv2EE In this one I do it on a H...
