Re: Do swim fins generate drag significantly ?

Fins (and legs) in the water while riding can affect the entire drag range from none to complete stop. Often times you will need one's knees bent to keep the leg and fin out of the water which means you are planning on the board. Most fins & legs on an even plane behind you on a wave will create som...

Testing 1-2-3, Posting Blockage

I am getting blocked from posting. In technical terms, this is a security setting in the forum software (see below). I do not know whether this is being caused by the hosting service provider or my local WiFi connection. Please let me know if you have recently experienced the same issue or not. Than...

Re: Fins

Some folks very much like the Force Fins--there are several different versions--your foot sits on the fin and an adjustable strap wraps over so wearing standard booties is not an issue (almost a requirement). Force Fin Pro fans are fanatic about them. I hear of some people breaking straps on the DaF...

Re: paipo choppy big waves, make it

I have often wondered if a deep "V" combined with rocker in the nose area, transitioning to deep convex and then to flat, would me a solution.

Re: Everybody wants to

Geez, I recognized that Leo Carrillo parking lot and have used that bathroom on the beachside. That was a very nasty fire. I can relate with you, Nels, on the how state of affairs can create an environmental cloud. Back long ago, think 9/11/2001 - 10/10/2002, several things touched me closely. The T...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

The really smart people would talk about characteristics of a fin's shape, height, base length and "rake." And where it is positioned on the board. A standard long board center fin is not conducive to easy quick turns/pivoting, so it can feel stiffer. But the fin is good for projection. Even those l...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

Single fins work, I rode a single fin paipo for a long time, during the late-1960s, 1970s, until maybe mid-1980s. On the other hand, the tail was somewhat narrower that what I evolved to with 3- or 5-fin setups. My single fins usually ranged from 8 to 6 inches, going smaller over time, and now I gen...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

Apparently wind is more of a concern than a wave, and duck diving is not easy.

Dale uno con Graeme de GB. https://customsurfmats.com/ y https://www.matsurfers.com/

Give Grame a call. He will also tell you that low inflation works much better than "inflated."

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

Many different waves out there and many different people riding their paipo boards on them, whether it is a local wave break that a person may not venture far from or a faraway wave that is traveled to, and everything in-between. Young 15 year olds to older 75+ year olds, super fit and healthy and s...

Re: paulownia + polyester+ fiberglass: rocker and flex

Escribe en español and I will give it a try, "to get the rocker and that flex I have to cut the wood in contraction direction to the feed, if I do not give fiberglass part by just touching it", but I understood it as needing fiberglass to maintain the rocker.

Re: Paipo for sale

Hi, Do you ride in the North Cove in Nehalem Bay? Well, not really a bay but it can look like one from a top of the lookout, more like N. Manzanita. Shorty's? I have had some fun days at Shorty's, Cape Kiwanda and "Seaside." My boards are quite a bit shorter at 50 inches. I am 5'10". For many of us ...

Wow, Nels, I have never seen so many Wavemaster/Wavestorm boards. It is freaking crazy. Ouch. It is like cheapo bodyboards for the masses but now the masses are out in the line-up going every which crazy way.

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

I would argue that one should never buy fins unseen unless they are absolute replicas of ones already being used. Simple reformulations can make a fin go from good to great or great to terrible. First step is a dry fitting in the store where 70 percent of fins can be eliminated due to fit (and bring...
