Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

My two cents on Hydro Tech 2, great material, probably could go barefoot in warm waters, very soft and supple, and a wide and tall foot pocket. They must have done some serious re-tooling and sourced different materials. I had a pair about 10 or 12 years ago (guess they could have been Hydro Tech 1...

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

Bob, Oh, I thought it was the legs ;) Honestly, I think the term might be French or Euskera, but not Spanish. I searched for escarpin thinking maybe it was a brand of fin socks or surf booties, not a generic term. Kept coming up with various forms of high heels. In the reference to the Hydro Tech 2,...

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

belly rider : I've been to the store in France, they had a few models, happy because I could prove them before buying. It is very curious as some fins without escarpin, they fit me well, but a larger size with escarpin, they are fatal to me. Hydrotech2 example. without escarpin size 9/10. very bad,...

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

It is good to see more of the pluses and minuses spelled out below. For one, if the swim fins can't hold up on rocky or reefy terrain they are not the swim fins for me, a real showstopper. I was very pleased to find out my DaFins were so much lighter than my Vipers because I usually take two pairs o...

Ideally, Load an image file from your device (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone, with the image stored on the device and not in the cloud) storage. Re: Everybody wants to

My boards never die. I still have my original paipo board from 50 years ago, created from a broken Holmsey Sidewinder during a ride on a 4 ft wave at Bridges, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. I've sold a couple of my former boards over the years, one is with a third owner and continues to live on and ridden ...

Re: quad fins 44.25 paipo

Today in waves that close with force I have had a very strong blow against the horned paipo, I've done enough damage, I'm fine. has made me rethink the design and make this paipo without fins, I'm thinking of a smooth design but with channels that allow me to run the paced without slipping Yes, if ...

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

Yes, that is a dilemma for many of us, even those among us that live in "surf rich" areas. I remember having forgotten something as basic as fin tethers or paddling gloves while visiting the Florida Space Coast (Cocoa Beach-Melbourne). One could hardly find bodyboarding/bodysurfing equipment, even t...

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

The Pod PF series has a couple of good features. The one that stands out to me is the large sand/pebble release hole at the tip of the foot pocket -- that is my only complaint about the DaFin design (the blade also curves a bit negating the ability to extend the plane with the legs and feet) -- and ...

Re: orca fins? other symmetrical fins

DaFins have been my choice for several years now as the Vipers were just becoming too narrow and less flexible when adding fin sox mm (as you said, especially 3 to 5 to 7 mm). The DaFins also scaled up the foot pocket in a larger size fin, say when moving from L to XL, which Vipers did not do. What ...

Re: quad fins 44.25 paipo

As a trailer, I might just go with a single small fin instead of two. Maybe even a knubster type.

Re: Am I asking for too much?

A surf mat surely travels easily! For years, decades really, I rode only one board, from 2 ft to 12 foot. The board was not specialized to any specific surf break or wave type, but rode in all conditions nicely and with some fin (skeg) adjustments provided a lot of flexibility. But catching a non-br...

Re: Can't help myself

My boards have had removable fins for like forever, probably since the early-1980s, initially driven by surf travel (during vacation and work travels). The beauty of removable fins is not being stuck with a static fin(s) placement and types. My center fin boxes are industry standard Fins Unlimited (...

Re: Can't help myself

And the Vektor has the board designed to position the foot over the the fin with the foot forward and the trailing foot over the trailing fin.
