Re: Sectional Board for travel
The key question is, will this Beater make a good paipo? Has anyone tried it as a prone board? In one of the interviews (I think) a guy on the East Coast was making soft kneeboards that also worked as paipos. What was his name?

Re: Asymmetrical vs Symmetrical swim fins
Leave asymmetrical design to the hair stylists! One of my knees went through a major repair job about 15 years ago. I can't run or jog or skate ramps anymore, but I'm good to go for most outdoor activities. For the first year or so that I got into paipo surfing, my bad knee would scream later in the...

Re: Costa Rica 2014
That looks like a good time! Its cool that so many different style of prone surf craft were in at the water at the same time and place. PhillyViking, what are your impressions about the performance differences between mats, wooden boards, and foam boards with fins? There might not be a clear answer ...

Re: Old Paipo board pic
I'm intrigued because I'm always looking for boards that function well in typical east coast 1-2' swell. I was thinking that a MS in the 5-6' range might have the extra volume to get in early when paddling with flippers.

Re: Old Paipo board pic
Has anyone here ridden a Mini Simmons as a prone board? It would be bigger than most paipos, but certainly less volume than the mega-platter.

Re: North American wood for a paipo
I have had great luck with 1'' white pine. Its cheap, it glues up easily with titebond II, and its right there on the Home Depot shelf.

Cool. Thanks for the help y'all! The stormrider guide says its an uncrowded reef break, so that got my attention.

My wife is talking about wanting to go there for a birthday trip. Have any of you ever surfed there?

Looks pretty sweet! Are paipo fins usually canted (I think that's the word) in that sharply?

fin Savers?
I just bought a used pair of Force Fins (which I love!). But these babies sink like rocks. What fin savers can you recommend?
I have size 12 feet, and I usually wear 3-mil dive booties.

Netflix Goodies
Living in the Georgia hills, I can't always get to the ocean as often as I would like. So, sometimes a sweet surf movie can keep me going. Are there any on Netflix streaming that y'all can recommend? When you put surf or surfing in the search box, it comes back with meager results.
Re: Music?
Ha ha Six degrees of Lemmy Kilmister! He's the connector between all kinds of rock styles. He was friends with Hendrix and played in the Damned. That's quite a resume.
Re: Music?
SJB, that is a solid song! I remember it very well from the film. It captures a great vibe.

Music?
Good music is a key ingredient of the sweet life. What music do you play before and after surfing? To get amped up, especially on the drive to the waves in the morning, I prefer classic punk/ classic rock such as AC/DC, the Sex Pistols, and Motörhead. Afterwards, I lean towards mellow stuff such as ...

Re: Finless or Not?
I go both ways. (don't tell my mom)! That's a joke I usually break out when people start debating skis and snowboards, but I think it's appropriate here. I don't have an answer for Rod's original question, and I would never consider myself an expert on board design (or surfing, for that matter). But...

Re: Longboard Wavejet paipo/prone
I think the surfer wearing the helmet is the same paralyzed young man that was featured in Step Into Liquid.
If you think about it, that seems like a reasonable use for the Wave Jet technology. Every other use would get a severe frowning from me--and probably most of you too.

Thanks for the tip. I've never really considered forward/back positioning.
