Re: bodyboard shape evolution

When bodyboards started - the Morey Boogie - it was a magic one board does it all kind of thing. For the first 5 years-ish it was sold as a kit or as an assembled kit, with the factory boards getting more and more professional looking. Morey and Doyle sold their respective shares (don't ask me how t...

Re: bodyboard shape evolution

With such a short distance, roughly 42 inches give or take (and I presume differences in length corresponding to surfer height make this universal really), we're talking mere inches to find a good balance/crux point. While elbow areas are key, it still seems to me our "bulk" in a few inche...

Re: bodyboard shape evolution

That was a fun one. Reminds me of a lot of bygone times, and also that I need to clean up the garage. Widepoint mid-to back for prone, forward for drop knee...jeez...that's how I vaguely recall that issue. Don't recall for certain. Never drop-kneed - one of the great mysteries for me is the appeal o...

Re: Fin Advice

Hey Rod...it isn't more complicated for ME! But we've known each other for a long time so let's amend to

"Atlantasurfer and friends" and keep the thousand waves. It's always better when you share with friends anyway.

Re: Fin Advice

I don't know, Rod, that was a really funny clip. Just the thing to start summer off with. Atlantasurfer deserves something. Maybe "wave of the day" ...

But then again, I'm on the West Coast...a thousand waves in the Atlantic?

Re: Fin Advice

Okay...that's ME! Awesome video. Even watched the next one up, which is the same clip with a little more at the start to give it a real beachy flavor.

Atlantasurfer, may you receive a thousand waves in return for this gem.

Re: Asymm

I just don't see value when half your body is hanging off the tail of the board...but all that means is I don't see it, not that value isn't there. Many of my own home-crafted boards are in varying minor degrees of asymmetry...mostly due to my undeveloped skills in construction...and they work fine....

Re: Asymm

I am a regular foot standing (45 years worth more or less), right handed, from an area with a lot of right point waves. I've spent most of my surf time in the last 15 years not standing so I could get some halfway uncrowded waves, which has taken me to more beach breaks and altered the favorite spot...

Re: Building a plywood paipo in the middle of nowhere in Ind

Also important to remember that if materials aren't too terribly hard to come by...if the first ones don't work or break down quick...make more and incorporate what you learned with the first ones. Especially in the India circumstances; this provides even more recreational opportunity. Get into thin...

Re: Building a plywood paipo in the middle of nowhere in Ind

I've found with 1/4" ply that the flex eliminates the need for for a turned up nose. You won't have any real float from the board anyway so you just use your hands and body to make the board do what you want. Flex it up at the nose if the takeoff starts feeling hairy. For size I just piddle wit...

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Tough crowd! Personally I give points for enthusiasm as long as they aren't taking off in front of me. ;)

Found "the other guy" I mentioned, although under a more established banner:

Re: Basically, full of bullship!

New business, new website, and I don't know if they know about the forum or community already out there. Website obviously marketed to incoming paipo/bellyboard riders. I've seen their FB page for a good while now. There was also a guy out in Glendora CA who makes a single bellyboard shape in a disp...

Nice one there Bob. Just watched this vid of Maurice Cole, thought that long single concave looked interesting, then you posted yours.

Re: Paipo design in books

Hi Bob The 365 board book appealed to me more than the other...I think that was the one with a couple of the mysto Agua boards from days of yore...Kenvin's book was fine, not knocking it, wish I could get down to SD for that exhibit, although the whole semi-mysto San Diego thing is getting old. &quo...

Paipo design in books

I made a rare stop in Ventura on Monday and hit the Barnes and Noble bookstore. To my surprise in the sports section there were two books that might be of interest to the forum. Both had paipo action. The first was very focused on the San Diego area IMO while the other was more international in scop...

Re: The Truck

54" is a comfortable prone length for me and I'm 5'8" tall. Swim fins are no problem - just slide back a bit. I boardsurfed for decades though so I personally find this way to small for comfortable and efficient arm paddling. On the 54" board I would kick and paddle while going throug...

Re: The Truck

I've tried two semi-recent boards as paipos...a 5'6" Doyle soft board and an older Mark Leon kneeboard. Cons: Thick buggers made duck diving hard to impossible. Kicking out with fins was awkward and unpleasant. The length was too small to make arm paddling very pleasant either, especially at th...

California Paipo Number 3

California has had some great ocean temps this Fall, and I managed to get a few really nice days in them along with a few decent waves. Summer was a complete zoo in my areas. I don't know why I stick around in summer any more.I was hoping to have this board finished before life got busy again as hol...

Re: Endeavour stand up board a usable paipo?

I saw one of these yesterday in a shop...about 54" if I recall. Rocker didn't look good at all for paipo, but then they make a range of bodyboards so that wasn't their concern. About $179-$199 USD if I remember. http://www.amazon.com/VS-Bodyboards-Stubbie-Surfboard-54-5-Inch/dp/B00D8VO3ZQ/ref=s...
