Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
Hi there Yesterday I had a fun paipo session, early morning, empty peak (very rare!), nice waves by my standards. A lot of closeouts but nice long lines. I took the gopro on a stick to film some videos: https://youtu.be/8DMDxrTcXbI The stick is a pain in the ass to surf with, I might use a classic &...

Re: Finless wide open
I like Fred Compagnon's videos. Besides this alaia vid, he made other ones where he also rides a sponge pretty well, prone and drop knee. He has some interresting gopro shots, deep in the tube, using a long stick. He seems to like alternative surfcrafts, I wonder why he hasn't tried to ride paipos a...

I am not competent to talk about the technical choices but I do love the "angular" look of this board

I checked out the Gus Acosta interview, the board looks like this one:

Re: versions of gus acosta?
The skegs seem to be quite forward on this one, it is close to a kneeboard shape.

Re: Plywood and cork
Another option would be to replace the cork sheet by this recycled rubber sheet:

Less natural for sure, less buoyant, but maybe more resistant ?

Re: Plywood and cork
Another annoying thing with regular plywood paipos is the fragility of the edge. Mine keeps to get dings on the edge, I always have to re apply some varnish to fix it. I hope the kork edge wil help with that.

Plywood and cork
I have a new project in mind. I would like to make a plywood board that would minimize the inherent plywood boards flaws. Which are, to me, the lack of buoyancy, and these dangerous hard edges. So, my plan is to make a sandwich: - the bottom layer will be a 1cm plywood sheet, the same one that I wou...

Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
When I first started riding the alaia style boards it took me about six months of regular use before I felt like I had it figured out. Completely different from other craft. I was thinking of making a new plywood board with that kind of dimensions (150cm x 40cm), my current is only 120cm long. How ...

Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
Could it be that the HPD needs to be ridden farther up than most paipo riders are used to? It could be that, sometimes I ride it farther up like "superman style", but when it gets too hollow I instinctively position myself backward, like regular bodyboard stance, so that I can use the lev...

Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
I rode my HPD board this afternoon. That board is definitly more complicated to turn than my plywood board, I have been using this board occasionally for 2 years and every time I am still struggling to make a turn and avoid side slipping. I feel like I need to lift the outside rail, like on a bodybo...

Re: Soloshot 3 testing.
The result is great quality, but aren't you scarded that your camera would be stolen while you are in the water ? By the way, nice rides, I like the spins and the cut backs. Regarding the trademarks, there is a free software I use that doesn't put trademarks, it is called davinci resolve or somethin...

Re: PAIPO Foils.
I have a tiny shed to work in. I have never surfed in water colder than 19c, I think getting used a full wetsuit is going to be a problem. I see Keith spends most off of his surf time outside the UK. It is going to be a stressful life change I wouldn't worry too much about that, I wear a wetsuit al...

Re: Bodyboards discuss (the soft paipo)
This board might be a fun soft paipo.
It is a soft top, it is finless, it has quite an alaia shape, could be a fun subtitute to an alaia when it is small.
The model is seaglass albacore.

Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
"long/narrow/flat" = Alaia! This video (one of my most favorite surf vids) is standup but really a master class in how that sort of board works, what kind of lines it likes to draw. Some variations will undoubtedly show up for prone riding but still.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvY...

Re: A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
It was at Pantin beach, a famous beach break of the region. Regarding the speed, the long / narrow / flat combo seems to work fine in that kind of conditions, although at times I had to "pump" and paddle in flat sections. On the first wave I performed a funny "bottom turn" (to av...

Re: Bodyboards discuss (the soft paipo)
Great video indeed, the power generated by these huge tubing waves seems so hard to handle on a skegless board, and yet he manages to do it.
In small waves one would slightly drag a flipper in the water to increase control, this guy in these powerfull waves drags the entire legs

A couple of waves in Galicia, Spain
Hi there, I just spent a few days in Galicia, Spain. We had small waves, not hollow, but that was fun to surf there, plus the region is beautiful. Since the house was in front of the beach, I managed to film a couple of waves riden by me on the paipo: https://youtu.be/LskIlVWE8PQ I had a bodyboard, ...
