Plywood paipo with a bodyboard shape

Hi there, This is a short video of a nice small session, using a plywood paipo with a shape based on a 42' bodyboard. The test is positive, at least for small waves, the board being big (I would normally use a 40' or 41' bodyboard), it is fast and easy to catch waves with. I can do cutbacks just lik...

Re: Advice for a total beginner?

Hi, I have been building and riding plywood paipos for 2 years, from my short experience here are some advices: - go plywood, it is super easy to saw, protect it with some varnish or even home paint. - if you surf at crowded places, and thus need to use a leash, you can fashion a very simple leash p...

Glass an old bodyboard

Hi there, Do you think it is possible to glass an old (yet clean) bodyboard ? That would be a fun indoor activity for these no wave days we are experiencing sometimes. I guess it is possible, but I am not sure the epoxy would stick to the bodyboard "external skin" (sorry, I don't know the ...

Re: Plywood paipo video

Indeed, nice conditions, powerful enough to have fun but still in my comfort zone. The HPD I have is the XL, my plywood board has a similar length, the bottom is a little less wide and the nose is way more narrow. I like the HPD but I find it very hard to turn, I struggle to engage the rail in the f...

Plywood paipo video

Hi there, Here is a POV video of my new plywood paipo in action: https://youtu.be/MAid5e9Dw5k and the slow motion version of the first wave: https://youtu.be/ipyeiJJWV50 Here is the board: paipo.jpg So far I am quite happy with this design. It is very easy to catch waves with, and it is easier to co...

Re: Any Hints for Go Pro Camera on a Paipo?

I used a wrist mount several times, it is nice but you need to pay attention to the direction the cam is pointing at, as it moves a lot. But it makes interesting videos especially when doing the superman stance. I just bought a mouth mont, I am looking forward to test it. the idea is to be able to g...

Re: New plywood paipo

I finally tested the cork paipo that I mentioned bellow. The cork makes the board a little more buoyant, not that much, but I liked the fact that the cork avoids to wax. The board was not as fast as my other boards. I don't think the cork has something to do with that, I think the board is just a li...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

Haven't used it for a while now. I like it under specific conditions. It needs to be clean, not choppy, not too big, and not crowded since my board doesn t have a leash. Some winter mornings are like that.

Re: Swim fins and the winter.

Thanks krusher74, I replaced the swim socks by 5mm surf boots, it is much better, it fills more room in the flipper. The only little inconvenience that remains is that the filpper being bigger than my natural size, it is also harder to paddle (more surface), but this is something I ll get used to I ...

Swim fins and the winter.

Hi there It s winter time, the water is getting cold, and I m facing an issue that you probably faced already. My favourite summer swimfins are Dafins, they are great. For the spring or the Autumn, I use another pair of Dafins, the upper size, so I can wear 2mm neopren socks. But, in the winter, whe...

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

I had another HPD XL test session yesterday. It was quite mushy and choppy, the waves were not that small but still a little weak so most of the take offs were late. I focused on bottom turning, I found it not that easy with such a wide board. The rocker definitely prevented pearling at times. I am ...

Nice board, how the nose being wider than the tail affects the ride ?

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

I wanted to test the board Today, unfortunately it was very small, here is the longest wave I had: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysItAYkQ6ww So I couldn't really test the board in normal conditions, but I can tell that this board makes tiny waves very easy to catch. Nice board, cool fun wave too....

Re: Need feedbacks on the HPD XL

I received the board, I m impressed by the width
As expected it doesn t have a leash plug.
Do you think that gluing a classic surf leash plug would work ?

Re: New plywood paipo

How are you finding the very straight rail? Does it just lock to the wave face and track down the line or is it turn-able. I have found if using the same rail curve from my fave bodyboard, onto my foam/fibreglass paipo and paulowina paipo they all tun the same. So from that I have found template sh...

Re: New plywood paipo

I applied varnish, the cork drank a lot of it as expected, the result is not bad, it is not crispy.
