Re: New Paipo Mania board
I keep most of my foam right about where my chest lies on the board. I ride all the way on front. What I really meant to say is that for my style of riding I like to more width further forward on steeper waves, because that is where I am coming down on the initial bottom turn. Again it all depends o...

Re: New Paipo Mania board
In stand up surfing people refer to "front footed" surfers and "back footed" surfers. I would say that I use the front of the board for driving the board etc. I designed this board for a steep and somewhat unforgiving break I ride. I have found that having more width and foam tow...

New Paipo Mania board
I got my latest board back from the glasser the other day. I decided to have someone glass this one. It is 47 1/2" x 21 1/2" x 1 5/8" epoxy on eps foam. After I test it out as is, I am going to put either a 3/16 or 5/16 pad on it depending on the feel of the float. I brought wide poin...

Re: which resin for plywood ?
I would agree with using epoxy and then varnishing or polyurethaning over the epoxy. West System has to be varnished or it will degraded from UV light exposure. I have used this method on a paulowinia wood board with good success. Entropy resin makes an epoxy for more coating purposes than laminatin...

Re: Free
I think finless and finned are almost different sports, just like floaty and non-float boards. That being said I have watched bodyboarders riding many time times and almost invariably you can see them slipping sideways down the wave (unintentionally). Maybe the sensation of speed is from all the lat...

PES, that is your best board yet. It looks like a good size for you. Can you duck dive it?

Surfer Dies at One My Main Spots
This happened at one of my regular spots. I have been out there many times when it was big and have had some close calls in thundering close outs. But it is very spectacular. When you get outside can see the waves breaking on the Potatoe Patch bar (which is 20 feet deep at its shallowist) outside th...

Re: TBG5 Step Up
That's a nice design. It will be interesting to see how it rides. I have been toying with making two longer designs. One to help paddling around and catching bigger waves up here at Ocean beach and other places. However, I was surprised to see how well my 48" board with a slight fish kicks/padd...

I ti s an interesting looking board. It would have to be thinner for me.
HOWEVER: if you look at the diagram, only the bottom is glassed with volan. The top is vacum bagged EVA.

Re: SDF no4 (US blanks green Pu 5.10RP)
Keith, If you decide to put fins on it, you might try putting some Grom sized thruster side fins. They have low surface area and are pointy. Pointy fins pivot better than the those keel like fins.

Re: New Paipo Board Build
Hi, sorry I didn't reply to your question earlier. I am 6 ft 212 lbs (standard). The volume is just about right for me. I am going to make an identical model a little thinner and with thinner rails just try it out.

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?
I had a great time. It was a long drive (7 hours), but it was worth it. I was nice talking with you guys. It was a different experience for me to surf in the blazing sun and warm water. Here is a photo I took the day before we went out at El Capitan.[img] WP_20151010_13_50_44_Pro_(2)[1].jpg [/img]. ...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?
Hi Rod, I have never surfed down there. I got a room at Motel 6 in Lompoc, because all the Santa Barbara hotels were way over priced. I was thinking about surfing at El Capitan or one of those other spots nearby. Ventura would be more driving for me. But I could come down there, if it is better. I c...

Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?
I am now planning on getting down there late morning or early afternoon on Saturday, because the Surfline forecast still says that the main swell will be on Sat and Sun. I don't know if anyone will be there by then. I am still going to stay at a hotel Sat night, because Ocean Mesa and El Capitan don...

You can move around just fine with the Cove pad. It's not that sticky. I still slide off a little sometimes. I have learned to love these pads.
