Re: California Surfcraft Bodypo Review

I picked up a blank from Dave on Monday morning went home, cut a bit of the corners off the front end ,left the rails parallel and just slightly softened their edges with sandpaper. I was in the water within an hour. Pretty cool. I found it easy to paddle and easy to duckdive. I liked having a littl...

Re: Finned Xylem Paipo

just took my mat, 4gf roundtail out this morning-onshore winds, 4 ft, lots of closeouts and generally ugly conditions. Most of the long time regulars grumbling on the beach with their hard boards-I HAD A BLAST.

MATS ARE COOL

Broke the nose off my kerfed-nose ply paipo. Built a new one--no kerf-found piece of ply with slight natural nose rocker, 48x21 15/32 thick, parallel rails ,, nose template courtesy of my garbage can lid, marine varnish/paint. ta=dah!

Re: Alaia for prone riding

Hey Bob, thanks for the reply. I am 6 ft tall but I think the biggest problem is the thickness of the rails and floatation without fins on the board.. I am more comfortable riding shorter boards but was interested because I see some of the boards on the forum like Mr Mikes and Uncle Grumpy's are qui...

Re: fiberglass a ply paipo

The reason I was thinking of putting on a layer of glass is I have this ply paipo that I like, but it developed what can only be called a mild negative nose rocker. feeling experimental , I cut a few kerf lines a few inches from the nose, filled the cuts with epoxy glue and bent the nose up. when it...

Re: Alaia for prone riding

I have a wegner 5'8 albacore and when riding it prone, I have a hell of a time keeping it from sideslipping if not in exactly, and I mean exactly, the right spot on the board. it is very fast, but I find the sideslipping so annoying that I hardly ride it anymore. I have actually thought of adding a ...

Re: fiberglass a ply paipo

It is maybe 6 mos old with one or two coats of varethane (sp?) on it. lightly used so I think with a little sanding the resin will adhere well.

Re: fiberglass a ply paipo

Sounds like a good idea-I do like the flex. When you say marine epoxy, does that mean epoxy resin?

thanks,

fiberglass a ply paipo

Hello- I have decided I would like to fiberglass one of my ply paipos. In my misspent youth, I glassed a dozen or so boards and in those days, the rail was wrapped with the cloth around to the other side and then trimmed to a tape line. is this the way to glass a 1/2 inch thick ply paipo? I have sus...

Has anybody tried one of these? I saw it in one of the local surfshops today. 52" and comes with fcs keel fins. Sort of a simmons type shape--
sort of. Anyway, looked like it could be fun and was wondering if anybody has tried one.

they are xl's but i am not quite ready to get rid of them yet--I don't notice the drag when body or hand boarding so I will keep them

Re: Duckfeet/DaFin comparison (land-based early impressions)

I have been using Dafins for a couple of months now and as an experiment, switched back to my old duckfeet----what a difference! While the DaFins are more comfortable and easier to use, I felt much less drag using the duckfeet. I am riding a t-belly 3 and its performance, while already really good, ...

Re: Nomas

OK, I thought about the drag issue a lot last night because I had noticed it quite a bit during my last few go outs. Today, in some pretty clean 2-3 ft surf, i decided to change out my fins (swim fins) and see if that made a difference. I have been using DaFins and found them to be very comfortable....

Re: Nomas

I am a former kneelo and have ridden my 5-10 kneeboard prone and had some fun but found it to feel too long and way too floaty. I think it also has too much rocker to be ridden prone. As a kneeboarder, your weight is centered in a small area of the board usually near the center of the board . the kn...

right or left?

Like a lot of people here, I have been surfing a long time. As a standup surfer, I am a regular foot and have always been more comfortable going right vs left.

The odd thing is as a prone surfer, I actually seem to prefer going left. I was wondering if anyone else has a similar response
