Re: Finless surfing by John Galera

Very nice video, the wave looks huge although I know how action cams flatten waves.
And that take off ! Very very late for sure.

Re: Bending plywood Paipos

That's a great gift for your husband. I bent plywood once for a paipo, I just put boiled water on the board and bent very hard for like 20 seconds. You want to bend hard but not too much otherwise the board may crack. For the next boards I didn't bother to bend the nose, I think it is useless most o...

"swimming board" elva fin swim

Hi there, I guess we are all more of less on a lockdown, wether we live in France, in UK or in California. I have been home working for one month, no surf or any other beach activities allowed, of course during this period surf conditions were great... :D well that is life :x plus this is not really...

Mini paipo

Hi there! I have been playing with the idea of riding very small boards, smaller than regular paipos but bigger than regular handplanes. So I came with this one: test.png The size is approximatively 30x45cm, 2cm tick plywood. No concave, no rocker. The rounded shape makes it very easy to use. Depend...

I like riding superman style, first because it is fun to do, second because it puts a smile on paddling out surfers who see you :)

Re: Introduce yourself

Gopro videos of our paipo sessions are always deceptive, waves always look smaller and flatter (fisheye lentle), but in this case it is still a nice video. Welcome to the paipo forum! I live in Bordeaux (Bordeus) in France, so I am used to surf the Atlantic ocean. I had a chance to bodysurf (using a...

Re: The Immigrint board

During the winter I use 5/3 backzip wetsuits exclusively, I know front zip is better but I just can't wear them, I mean I tried in the shop and got completely stuck  . Backzip disturbs arms flexibility, but I fond it less a problem riding prone than on stand up surfing, cause I don't arm paddle...

Re: The Immigrint board

go in the water soon to avoid the crowd. I meant "early" ;) Another "trick" to avoid crowd is to surf...at the wrong tide time. Some spots work only at high tides, but if you go a few hours before the right time you may get some nice waves here and there, and they will be for yo...

Re: The Immigrint board

The board looks great ! You will get used to cold water, there is no secret, all you need is a thick wetsuit, tick gloves, thick socks and a thick hood. Gloves and socks must go inside the wetsuit, not over it. During the winter I like to bring hot water that remains warm in a isotherm bag. You will...

Re: "Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard

It reminds me my childhood in the 80s, when my brothers used to sailboard during hollydays, wearing that kind of colored wetsuits. Sailboarding used to be hype ! :D

Re: "Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard

I tested the board Today in small, fat waves, surounded by swimmers and SUPs. Some waves had enough power to feel how the board works. Well, it's not that bad. It is actually very similar to my plywood board in terms of feeling, except it has more flex. The flex allows quick turns, like bodyboards. ...

Re: "Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard

I received the board ! Dimensions: 104x54cm (41'x21') It is definitly not a bodyboard, it is a plastic version of a plywood paipo. It is made of a 1cm thick pvc plank, it is a material I easily recognize as I used it when I worked in the printing industry. It is solid, has flex (more than plywood), ...

I guess it is never a good idea to smack a product with a hammer in order to sell it
That explains why I couldn't find anything about this board on google though...
Nevermind, I'm sure it's is going to be a blast to test ride !

"Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard

Hi there !
I just ordered this weird 1992 bodyboard on ebay:
turbo.jpg
It seems to be an interresting attempt of making a paipo board using bodyboard materials.

Has anybody ever tried this board ?
I'm looking forward to try it :D

Re: Spring session

Zensuni, I don't know if this would work so you'd want to test it on a sample piece of neoprene--there is a product called Vulkem116, some sort of silicon caulk, that dries rubbery and bonds very strongly to what you put it on when its fresh from the tube. Some people, used to be many, used it on t...

Re: Superman board design

Just an input about this topic of the superman stance. Last weekend I tried a new board, same shape as usual (long/narrow), plywood, but this time I used 15mm thick plywood instead of the 10mm I normally use. I wanted a board easier to paddle out, which was the case, more buoyancy there was. But som...

Re: Question about skegs

if you are willing to screw them on in 10 different places to find where they work best then it will be an interesting learning process. (dont forget toe angles too) I do think you are inherently fighting against an initial design that isnt the best for turning in the first place. My shorter wider ...
