Re: Dorsal Swim Fins

And with webbed paddling gloves you can go even faster! But if one relies on them too much a shoulder problem could flare up. That confirms Bob Green's comment about Dorsals being on the heavier side for a pair, more in line with a pair of Vipers 7". Nonetheless, the performance and comfort for...

Re: Dorsal Swim Fins

Nomas, thanks! Is that the weight of one fin or a pair? Actual thrust and perceived thrust can often times be a play of deception or reality. Just because a swim fin kicks easier than a stiff heavy one doesn't necessarily make it more thrusty. No universal rule there. The magic thrust could be conta...

Re: Dorsal Swim Fins

Nomas, could you fill in the blanks for a couple of things? What is the length from heel strap to blade tip and how much does a pair weigh? Is the foot strap stetchy, some stretch or no stretch?

Re: Dorsal Swim Fins

I wish every fin brand/model had a chart, diagram like Dorsal's. Dorsal_PhantomSizingChart.png Lines up nicely with my table of swim fin dimensions and weights. I will actually be able to compare to my Vipers and DaFins, except for 1) blade length and 2) weight. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Pickle juice really works. Take a swig if you feel a cramp coming on (much easier while playing pickleball than surfing.)
So...Ted, do you have a surf trip in the year coming?

Re: contacting Hawaii Paipo Designs

Beginning to wonder. He played in a benefit concert back in late-May but hasn't been on Facebook lately, his page and the HPD page.

Thought I had his phone number but lost it along the way. We had a couple of conversations over the years but it has been awhile no.

Kim, close to a standard ply paipo, not too different than this one in general concept. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/163632989_104705535045202_7811426352553044804_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=8bfeb9&_nc_ohc=WfOCq3LGjUcAX9hg56q&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh...

Hansen Statoglas

Can't say I have heard of this Hansen paipo model before. Apparently Hansen built some Stratoglas shortboards as well. Anyone out there familiar with these models?

Re: would this class as mini Paipo?

Think it really comes down to the intended use, as a hand plane or a prone ridden paipo. No doubt it could be placed under the belly but intent is a huge part of the equation.

The open toe fin was an old fin belonging to a friend and that his model foot. The foot chart up above are not genetically specific to those nations but the different toes arrangements apparently took on different names... maybe medical research where they gathered around a number of orthopedic medi...

Fins are very personal because of the shape of our feet. For example:

From the juncture of the foot pocket to the blade (which will be below the drain circle on the bottom side). The 7" Yellow Dots look like "long fins" and the 5" a more normal length, in general. In addition to dehydration causes, I usually experience cramps when my fins are on re...

Nice looking boards. They appear to be along more traditional lines (plan shapes). How long and wide are the boards and are they flat=, concave- or convex-bottomed?

Hydrate well in the 24 hrs before going out. The Vipers Orange Dot are good (at least the old formulation was good, the black and orange), I used them regularly before moving to DaFin. Are you using the 7" or 5" Viper Yellow Dot?

I was graced with meeting Tom Morey outside the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian. We had a good chat with the help of his wife. Morey was also engaged with innovating removable skegs (board fins).
