Thanks for the pictures Bob,
I see, the piece of iron prevents the leash to chafe the wood, which is an issue on my basic hole system (I have to re apply varnish sometimes).
Nice shape by the way !

Re: What's your favorite board for small days ?
In the Winter I find the waves too big and gnarly, then in the Summer it is much better but they may be too small sometimes, plus I have to deal with the crowd (might be dangerous to surf a wooden board in the middle of surf beginners, they are everywhere). Might be frustrating sometimes. For too bi...

Re: Few Seconds of 1960's Paipo Riding
Impressive ride, the board seems to be quite wide, and the wave is so hollow that the rider has to counterbalance using his inside arm.

Re: What's your favorite board for small days ?
Thanks for your replies. Eventually I impulsively bought online a krypt surf mat. My plywood paipo is fine most of the time but it has its limits when there is no peack and small waves. I am looking forward the next small day so I can give the mat a try.

Re: Can you kneeride a plywood paipo ?
Thanks for your replies guys, these are interresting feedbacks. In "the endless summer", there is a video of George Grenough having a loooong ride at Malibu beach, he is kneeriding , do you know what kind of board it is, plastic spoon, fiberglass or wooden board ?

Can you kneeride a plywood paipo ?
I wondered if it was possible to kneeride a plywood paipo.
I tried sometimes without success (the board started to sink), but I guess the waves were just not powerfull enough.

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
nomastomas, thanks for these informations, indeed I have no knowledge in shaping boards, so I welcome these usefull informations. So, my board has straight rails, no rocker, so it goes fast, it allows pivot turning but not smooth carving turning. Also it doesn't like waves chops (I noticed that). Se...

Re: Small day at Lacanau
Soulglider, thanks for your post, I shaped another board following some of your comments, no skegs, a rounded nose, no rocker. Rails are still straight, as I have no template to round them a little. Indeed I could feel the difference ! It is faster, and turning is more interresting, it is closer tha...

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
Nomastomas, thanks, I didn't bend the nose of this board (on the video with the stream iron it is another board), but I did sand the nose a little bit. The steam iron trick works (the tuff part being explaining to my wife why I was ironing a wood plank), but I have read on this forum that it would a...

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
Here is the board I use : The width is 40cm (17.8 inches) at the nose and 50cm (20 inches) at the tail, the height is 110cm (3.3 feets). I am 5.5 feets. newpaipo.jpg I didn't know how to attach the leach, so I just made a hole on the bottom of the board, it does the job. I really like this shape, th...

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
Hi there, just an update about my paipo adventure. Finally I shaped a plywood paipo with a classic trapeze shape. It is the best compromize I found so far, I like my hpd like paipo but sometimes it is a bit too large. I know you guys advised me this shape already, but now I understand why. Yesterday...

Re: Very latest wing board
You wrote that the board gripped very well in vertical part of the waves, do you think it is because of the horizontal fins (the plane wings under the board) which are larger than the board is, so it is like having an extra piece of rail leafing the wave ?

During your test ride, did you feel the board lift after getting some speed ? If so do you need high speed ?

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
This doesn't look like a customary scoop nose board by The Original Surfboard Company (just appears to have much less rocker to me in the video). These boards are also fairly narrow (at least for me @ <19"). No fins (skegs). The best waves and rides I have seen on video for this style of board...

Nice board ! Just a question, the hydrofoil fin is quite big, does it create a lot of drag ? I guess it requires juicy waves

Re: Any Hints for Go Pro Camera on a Paipo?
I attached my gopro support on the nose of my plywood board, because it is the easier way to proceed (4 screws and voila). Once the support is attached, you can clip the cam in both directions, so you can film the wave or your face. It does the job, but I feel like on the video, the waves seem a lit...

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
Hi there You might find it easier to pick up the basic skills faster on a floaty bodyboard. I agree, it is way easier to learn on a body board, which I did (I can take reasonable waves correctly). The reasons why I switched to wooden boards are: - I am a terrible duck diver, plywood boards are great...
