Re: The Immigrint board
Thanks for the advice. I was surprised at how few beginners try prone boards. In Newque, during the week I was there, I saw maybe 5 body boards compared to hundreds of stand ups. It’s surly easier to get into good waves sooner riding prone? Wetsuits, what’s the vote on rear zip or front pull over. ...

Re: New summer Groveler
As far a weight goes in a paipo I feel that's way down the list of things that have an effect on it's surfing ability. length (planing area) volume rocker rail design Hull design tail design Flex. I would say these make up 99% of how a board works and maybe weight can throw in the last 1% I think ri...

Re: New summer Groveler
I have now ridden the board twice in small beach break conditions. Interestingly on the first wave, i felt a lot of turbulence from the new channel at the back corner and thought oh no have a got this all wrong, but that feeling seemed to soon be unnoticeable. The extra volume up to 30L is certainly...

Don't get me started on what a heinous addiction a leg-rope is to a paipo!!nomastomas wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 8:51 pm Lighter is better from a "feel" perspective. My 5lb G5 "feels" like riding nothing.

Re: New summer Groveler
How much does it weigh? I had no idea so I weighted a few for you. Groveler 6lbs performance board 5.5lbs bodyboard 3.5lbs. So my bodyboard is nearly half the weight and I feel there is no discernable riding difference due to weight between them all. What are your thought on board weight and its ef...

Re: New summer Groveler
I get that it's irritating to not get the plug where you want it, but what will be the effect - one place or the other? 5 things!! :o 1, in the normal location I have the plug (10" from nose) the bicep coil bodyboard leash I use sits nicely on top of the board out of the way while riding. 2, w...

Re: New summer Groveler
Picked the new board up from the Glasser yesterday and got the deck pad put on. Here are pics for comparison to my performance board. The same base design is there the groveler is just bigger 1.5" and 5L volume, has a different tail and a couple of extra channels. I asked for the fin plug in th...

Re: Bodyboard Hydrofoil Video
I can't say I have ever tried it but I feel foiling is the one thing that isn't surfing at all, I don't know really what it is :? As you are not planning on the hull of the board or using a rail it's just so different. its looks very fast and really uses the wave energy efficiently, but it's kinda l...

Well, I bought the other one cost me more to have it mailed to me that I paid for it
If I had seen the pictures of yours first I probably would not have bothered.
Might just be a wall hanger for me.

Re: "Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard
I got this reply about it from the vintage bodyboard guy "It was meant to be a mix between a skimboard and a paipo. On the bottom. there are a few little channel grooves. They were touted as pretty much indestructible, although that wasn't completely the case. Ken Brown, the brother of Russ Bro...

Re: "Turbo speedstik paipo" vintage bodyboard
WOW! where did you find that!!! Can't wait to see some more pics of it to see the rail etc. It's very similar in template design to what I ride. I think you will find it a whole different beast to what you are used to, maybe slightly slower, but the buoyancy will help you catch waves easier ...

Re: New summer Groveler
so this arrived in the post today from good old china, I had been searching around on the interwebs for EVA foam pads to stick to my newest paipo and found this "teak" boat decking. I don't like to much texture grip as I like to slide front to back on the board for accelerating, stalling a...

Re: Do swim fins generate drag significantly ?
I once wore a GoPro facing backward on my back to film into the wave behind me, one interesting part of the footage I caught was my fins, they were skipping across the water barely touching and my legs looked like jelly. So as anything would touching the water they will create some drag, but it thin...
