Re: Paipo for sale
Those are the local spots. This is my first paipo, which I'm trying due to blown out shoulder. I went longer to more closely duplicate the feel of a surfboard. There are some shapers out there making long paipos. With deep concaves top and bottom, there's not a whole lot of foam. Being too floaty i...

Re: Need Advice on Build
Not sure that a very buoyant board is necessarily the solution. My narrow plywood finless flat board (neutral flotation) works ok in conditions that seems similar to those you described: https://youtu.be/EVWwCZgZnzc I noticed that a long narrow flat board works better in small closeouts, no side sl...

Re: Technique: Riding position
Aloha, I am the originator or creator of this "Malolo-style" of Papa Paepo'o board surfing. When you becomes "Ma'a" as one with your board, the board will work with you in any size surf. Riding up on the nose, well risking the board to purl-dive. Not to be rude but up front, ride...

Re: Superman board design
So I wonder what kind of waves and / or boards require the superman stance ? I would guess that no waves actually "require" the Superman stance, which may be a reason this hasn't been more formally addressed as a "design issue". For me it's just something that is practically dre...

Re: Superman board design
Aloha gang, Been reading a lot of stories of how to shape a paipo (Papa Paepo'o) wood board. There's many, sizes goes from height to width to thickness that will fit that rider. There's a measurements that I used to build a wood-board for that rider. Each boards models are customs made to each rider...

Person weight could also be the factor of width and length of wood board. 250lbs person should be riding a 46"- 48" (H) x 19" - 20" width(Nose), 24" - 30" width (tail) x 3/8" thickness. This is a up-side down guitar-pick style.

Re: Buffalo"s Contest
Yep had six heats with 6-7 people per heat. Must have been almost 40 people. New rules this year compared to 2017. In 2017, rules required Paipo class entrants to be over 50 years old and / or 250lbs. For 2018 they got rid of those rules thus the large amount of entries. Was in the Paipo class and ...

Aloha, I cut and shape boards that are 3/8" thick and of course easier to control and maneuvers than thick board.Papa Paepo o wrote:Looks good, clean rockers. My boards are 1/2" thick but there's some rider's rides 3/8" thick. Thin boards are easier for control and maneuvers than thicker boards.

It is very easy to catch waves with, and it is easier to c...

Re: Small wave paipo
Hi, I'm wondering when it comes to a small wave board, what dimensions work better? Does it need to be longer like an alaia, or wider like a HPD style? I want to build another board for mushy onshore days Cheers Alaia is 48" inches and up. Hawaii Paipo Design has it's range on wide tail to the...

Aloha, do you have video of you charging big suf ? What kind of do you ride? Is skeg or skegless?nomastomas wrote:Yes, at a certain point, depending upon rider mass, low volume interferes with the shapes ability to plane effectively. I found the same thing as you when I dropped vol from 22L to 21L.

Is it easier for you surf with a leash? I've never seen anyone here in Hawai'i added a lanyard on their boards. Hope to see some photos clips of you in action.
