Re: My new finless board

And I thought you were asking if the square rail was a Vacuum rail ?!
Oh well.
Do you think the angled rails like on the Wegener board create a vacuum similar to the rails on Bobs board ?

Re: My new finless board

Not a Vacuum rail at all, it's designed to utilise the complete hull area and create the least drag with the 90 deg bottom edge. I haven't found it catching at the front but I pull the nose in more than usual, about 11" across the front

Re: My new finless board

SoulGlider, when you say "square" for the rails what do you mean? This is what I've been using for years , the vertical is 1 inch. I start at the nose with just under 1/2 inch vertical and increase it to 1 inch at 18 inches back and then wrap that 1 inch square all the down the rails and a...

Re: My new finless board

As far as I've seen Simmons tested his boards on flat water, I remember pics of his M2 board. A concave on flat water plane resembles a catamaran so it would have less wetted area and less drag but waves are round and I haven't seen any real water testing on waves from anyone. The closest testing wo...

Re: My lates Wing board

Board of the day... Morey The One, but it's not. The added fin system isn't The One either. image.jpg image.jpg Dave, here's a pic of the filter I use on the tubing, I can easily post you a dozen, I use one for months and change it whenever. I'll do more pics over the next few days. image.jpg

Re: My lates Wing board

Dave, for breather ply I found some floor mat material that does both jobs, it's cheap and after each board I throw it away. If the jobs small like fins the excess resin gets pulled into the tube and when it's set I squeeze the tube and the resin falls out. I've also got a fine filter on the end of ...

Re: My lates Wing board

That's the frustration of the Internet, I can tell you how to do it but if I could show you, you'd pick it up instantly. Vacbagging is simple but you've got to have the pump and a few bits and then it all gets so easy to glass anything. I bought a pump off ebay but I've heard of people using fish ta...

Re: My new finless board

"Flat" for me is flat front to back and side to side. You can't really have a flat board with concave. But a board with rocker can have concave that flattens the rocker along the centreline (stringer) The concave reduces the original rocker making it potentially faster than the original sh...

Re: My lates Wing board

Vac bagging is the way to go esp for prone boards. Put the foam shape with wet glass in a bag and attach a vacuum hose and in a few hours it's set, flat, and the vacuum sucks away excess resin so it's as light as possible. image.jpg Bob, I'd go back and show them the board but I'm afraid they would ...

Re: My new finless board

Hi Bob, Ive come to that understanding that Flat is Fastest, especially for prone boards. Sure concaves and channels give grip but with a limited area to work with flat uses 100% to reflect the power of the rising water.
I'm not sure if a mat is faster tho ...probably not.

Re: My lates Wing board

A wave pool would be perfect for testing hydrofoils, what say we all meet in the Phillipines next year for 3 months of testing ? :D Here's my Board of the Day !. Found in a cleanup, it's just ply but looks to be from the 60's or earlier. I gave it a few coats of epoxy and took it out today. image.jp...

Re: My new finless board

Noice !
Have you ridden it without a rashvest or wettie ? Is the cork as grippy as wax or do you need wax as well ?
I'm thinking of incorporating cork into my builds.

Hope you are well, Brett.

Re: My lates Wing board

Hi Chris, sometimes life kicks you in the balls and nothing else matters... But I'm back ! Did you find that the lift on the inside wing means you have to lean right into the wave and tilt the board ? Here's a new foil for a kiteboard from a U.S. (?) company. I think it's basicslly a twin (fore/ aft...

Re: My lates Wing board

Between the professional boards and foils from Dave and Chris, I look like a fool, so I'm out of the race !
I'm going back to painting the house and mowing the lawns.

Re: My lates Wing board

Chris,yours is a work of art !
I think you'll find the ground effect would only work on flat water and at over 100 kph. Nice thought tho !
If you wNt to talk about a 'cushion of air', surfmats are pretty close but they have fatal flaws too.

Re: My lates Wing board

I think I needed more strength especially for standup foiling.. Previously I've use a standard foam bodyboard and bolted wooden strips to both sides but it looks ugly so this time I've hidden the stringers insider the board, once it's glassed people won't know they're there. Once you're foiling abov...

Re: My lates Wing board

Hi guys, Chris, good idea about GPS in a wave pool. Here's my beast, got the twin stringers locked in. image.jpg I was going to leave the rails square but I've given in to a bit if hydrodynamics, aesthetics and a square rail doesn't sit under the armpit very comfortably. image.jpg I've used a 1 &quo...
