Re: Travel Beater Tri-Sect

Then there are the folks who like foam, but not fins. Rod, if I haven't already sent bisect photos, e-mail me. Also, there have been a number of posts on Swaylocks about bi/trisect boards. http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/another-two-part-travel-board http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1018123 http://ww...

Re: Travel Beater Tri-Sect

I'm with Rod on this one. After extortionist charges from an airline I got myself a bisectable paipo.Works great in all conditions. Only bummer was when my luggage was misplaced so I didn't have the mechanism to join the two halves of the board together. Why not a mat? I'm a very ordinary mat rider....

Re: 1903 Japanese paipo

NOBUHITO "Nobby" OHKAWA, has begun compiling a history of Japanese surfing that starts earlier than the standard version that web-sites say begins in the 1960s. See: http://www.nobbywoodsurfboards.com/cn74/itako.html Nobby seems to be adding to it all the time. John Clark of Hawaii has a J...

Re: Space Quad Displacement Hull

"The rails are full thickness hull rails foiled to a sharp edge from nose to tail." - is the rail shape constant from nose to tail as in the above diagram? The top photo, looks like the rail line may be different in the tail area, but that may just be my eyesight. If you have the time I''d...

Re: Wegener Paipo

Hello Geoffrey, No worries. It's an honour to be able to tell some of these stories. The interview pool is quiet at present but there's a couple of interviews with kiwi's in the final stages. I'm not sure if we publicized the Spanish interviews. Salvador Artaza has been influenced by Tom Wegener. Th...

Re: Wegener Paipo

Ted, I got a custom board off Tom and he let me ride a pile of boards before I ordered mine. A lot of footage that you see is them ridden in small waves and they plane along. I haven't ridden mine in a few years. In a bigger size wave the flex really comes into play. They can be a lot of fun. Tom ha...

Re: Wegener Paipo

The 3 layer construction is interesting - the rocker looks more like a surfboard profile than some of the flat line models seen on the forum here.

Re: Help...1/4 in. Marine ply, need a plan!

RNT,

Many thanks for the construction details. On the old paipo forum, there is additional detail about how John builds his boards.
I'm sure he would be interested to hear about your application of his design ideas.

Re: Help...1/4 in. Marine ply, need a plan!

RNT, I can't recall if I have made the comment before but the bottom reminds me of one of John Galera's boards - while his elevated bottom channels are wider and the space between therefore narrower, the overall appearance has similarities. The outline and tail, are however quite different to John's...

Re: UK bellyboarding history

I have just e-mailed about a possible Yeo connection. Photos have also sent been sent to an Oz collector, the UK surfing museum, and some US collectors as well as people in Spain. No id so far, though I was sent a clip of bellyboards in Italy in 1948.

Rod,

Have you asked John Clark about paipo content? John or own of the collectors he knows may have access to the book.

Re: Spring is here

Rod,

I thought there used to be a facility to contact the seller direct rather than signing into ebay and asking? Is my recollection wrong? I was thinking of asking if the seller had been the original owner/surfed it? The interviews have now turned up as links to a few ads.

Do you much about Hoyte or have an e-mail you could pm? I have a 3/4 finished interview with Gus Acosta waiting photo captions and some extra detail.

Re: Where is everyone?

I've had nothing much to say, have been a bit crook and not been surfing and avoiding the computer. On a more positive note Rod is formatting some new interviews (three with Spanish surfers have been completed and two with Kiwis are in the pipeline) and I have discussed some design ideas with a boar...

This thread has suggested a couple of different topics - aqua packs and whether paipo riders get different types of injuries.

Regarding the leash question - I'll test it out.

Re: Leash for fiberglass paipo/bellyboard?????

My thinking is that the less flotation, the less the board will be pulled away, so stretching will be less and shorter lasting. To test this we need Ted to go over the falls several times with the HPD- when he hits the base he lets his board loose and reports back. However, like any good scientific ...
