Re: Paipo Gathering - Fall 2015?
I am up for almost anytime or location. However, EC seems like a nicer place. I have always wanted to surf there. But I don't know when the swell comes in. Also, I know that up north here in Nor Cal it would be too cold and rainy after the end of October. Maybe the weather is better down there. I wo...

Re: New Paipo Board Build
Here is my board after putting a gloss coat on both sides. WP_20150819_09_24_06_Pro[1].jpg It is more of a cheater coat to fill in all my glassing imperfections. I hated to sand it down. This is the board sanding down with 220, 400, 600 and 1000 wetsand. WP_20150820_15_39_03_Pro[1].jpg Tonight I'll ...

Re: swim fins - DaFin
I have been using Force Fins since they came out except for one brief stint with Redleys. They are very comfortable and lots of power, if use the Pro Force model. The regular and Rip Force do not have enough thrust for me. If just got a new pair of ProForce fins (my third pair. I left my last pair i...

Re: New Paipo Board Build
We'll see how it goes with double 6 oz. My last two boards had triple 4 oz on both sides and it worked great. I have no stringer so I have added some more glass on theses boards. On my next board I might try a one 4 oz and one 6 oz top and bottom or even double 4 oz. It seems like the double 6 oz to...

Re: New Paipo Board Build
Here is a view of the top tale after lamination with the leash plug in. I put the leash in the middle this time. I always have had it on the the corner, because I thought it would gouge my wetsuit in the center. But I am hoping that with leash in the middle the board will pull through the water. whe...

Here are some photos of my build: This is picture the top being sealed with epoxy and Microballons WP_20150730_18_54_56_Pro[1].jpg . Now I have sealed both sides and I have the FCS Fusion fin boxes in and have laminated the bottom with 2 layers of 6 oz cloth. WP_20150806_11_00_16_Pro[1].jpg Here I h...

I would do it. But there is more to surfing than just riding waves.

Re: How long?
Rod, On my boards I keep my feet out the water most of the time and ride forward also. But when wave slows down to a crawl my feet will go into the water. What I am wondering about is how low you have to go to able to keep your knees bent at 90 degrees ALL the time like you see in mat riders or the ...

Re: How long?
I have always wondered how long you have to go to get your legs out of the water. If I lift my legs out the water on my 4' 2" foam board, the nose will come up and the tail will sink into the water and the will slow down almost to stop. I know that Skiff can lift his legs out the water on his 6...

Re: Board outline, with and without fins
Thomas, To answer your question about yaw angle. In very steep surf I think my yaw angle is minimal (0-5 degrees) when cutting across a wall. And with no fins it would be even less in steep waves. When ridding finless (which haven't done for a long while), I tend to dig the front rail in hard when c...

Re: New Paipo Board Build
I made this one similar to my favorite body board. I tend to ride the forward edge of most my boards. This is sort of a curiosity board. I like a longer board, but I think this will be good for a local break that tends to close out alot and all for junky summer surf. However I you could ride it in a...

Yes, Fins. Fins, Fins, Fins. I love fins. I will be a twin fin. That is my current addiction. I originally envisioned thinner rails. But I kept them a little fuller, because it is only about 2 " thick.

WP_20150712_13_29_29_Pro.jpg WP_20150712_13_27_56_Pro.jpg Now it is almost done. I have smooth it out a little and put the concave on the bottom. Hopefully by this weekend I will have sealed it with microballons and epoxy and then laminated the top and bottom. After my last board I swore that I wou...

New Paipo Board Build
Here are some photos of my latest board. It is 48" x 21" x 2". I will be adding a 5/16" Cove pad. So it will be about 2 1/4" when done. It was supposed to have a round nose and be 48", but the foam was damaged. WP_20150623_21_00_04_Pro.jpg All drawn out on 3" 2 pou...

Re: Quad Fins for Summer
It looks to me like you fins might be little far too forward for the size of the board. Even thought the hips might be up a little way on the board, the torque (???) or leverage is further back. But I have never had a quad fin board. I thinking about going quad on longer a board (4' 6")I going ...

Re: 4'2 Bellyboard
Hi, I noticed that you put your leash plug in the middle of the back of your board. On all of my boards I have placed the plug in the back on the side near the corner. I did this because I thought that the end of the leash would chaff my wetsuit when paddling. I was wondering how it has worked for y...

Re: Fin Advice
I have used FCS M7 fins. I think it the same shape but the next size up. What I have found is that a fin smaller than a "7" size fin don't hold enough and anything bigger than a "7" is unnecesary. I have used Futures Aipa twins and T1 (or Twinzers). They were plenty loose, but I ...
