Re: New project... this time a Paipo
Look to the skim, kite boarding groups for some through-board skegs/fins.

I am all tapped out for additional travel in 2021, but definitely consider another paipo gathering. Please start a new thread for that discussion.

Re: boot/sock
Update: the various patches and tape have been doing a good job as have the 2mm fin socks. During this next week I plan to test out the awning material affixed with aqua seal. All methods have proved successful thus far and I have no reason to believe the awning material/aqua seal won't. Fin socks o...

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
Yeah, Ted, I hear you. Swim fins are so "personal" in the way they fit and respond for each person. A swim fin that one person raves about in exultation might be a damnation for the other person. There are so many different fin types available but finding the "right one for me" c...

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
The Yucca SoftFlex XXL sounds about right for overall surfriding. And remember you are using these for mat and paipo surfing. Also, a lot of bodyboarders bend their knees with feet out of the water.

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
P.S. Pez has been a resident of San Diego for quite some time now and mostly surfs there and up through Central California. But he will be raring to go for a surf at one of our DelMarVa breaks when the swell arrives and we are around.

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
PhillyViking, we might get a chance to hook up with Pez later in the Summer for some surf down Assateague way and maybe you could try on a pair (assuming the size is close).

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
The Vipers have a very pronounced ridges and the Churchills have somewhat rounded ridges, running down the length of the blades. One thing noticeably different in the DaFins and Force Fins is weight, 1.6 lbs/pair and 5 lbs/pair, respectively.

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
Agree. Time for salt water testing. The Rip Force Model looks quite different from the Classic and Pro Models.
Any changes to the trailing edge foil on the Mod Fins?

Re: Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
The trick will be finding the sweet spot between being able to do long paddleouts (endurance) like with the Force Fin Original and at the same time do 3 sec sprints (bursts) with spring and propulsion rivaling a DaFin.

Re: TBG7
I'd be interested in trying them out but was concerned about my FCS 2-tab fin boxes being sturdy enough for all that torque. On top of shelling out so much for more fins! Take 2 inches of height off sounds for doable on my end but I don't see that model being produced.

Re: boot/sock
I have taken to experimenting with a number of "sole enhancers" for walking down paths and across hot sand, and sometimes across a parking lot or longer dirt/gravel roads. The "walk" chews up my regular neoprene wetsuit style fin socks. I am using a combination of pre-glued patch...

Looking for a Better Fit, Modifying Swim Fins
One of our forum members, PhillyViking, is in search of (ISO) a better fitting and performing swim fin. DaFin doesn't size up well for him and the Force Fins he has been using, Regular/Classic and Pro, have their shortcomings. Hope he chimes in here.

Re: New project... this time a Paipo
Hello and welcome to the paipo forums. You will receive lots of good feedback, from many different directions, but ultimately it will be your path. Finned or finless. Foam or wood. It will be endless! One of our regulars here came from the finless bodyboarding world. Krusher74 has shared much of his...

Re: French paipo
Strength will depend on the glass job. I typically have 3 x 6 oz glass job, though I suspect most others go much lighter. My boards get a lot of punishment, go over rocks etc. Depends the amount of glass Chris the shaper, does a great job keeping the weight down and retaining some liveliness in the...

Re: French paipo
I wouldn't be too concerned about lack of tail rocker. The El Paipo spec is 4 inches shorter than a similar board I had in the 1960s and 1970s, and pearl diving was never an issue.
