Re: Paulownia paipo
Are you using the fibreglass board much. Once you have a few boards, it is hard to regularly use them all. It is fun, pulling out a board that you haven't surfed for a while. Not that much actually. It's a fun little kneeboard for good waves, but I don't like it as a prone board, too wide on the no...

Re: Paulownia paipo
I added 2 small wakeboard fiberglass fins to the board, as they are very easy to install, all I had to do was to drill 4 holes and screw the fins. I rode the board this morning in clean 4' waves. At first I tried to ride it "kneeboard style" for fun, the fins helped a little bit but not th...

Re: First Build
By reducing the thickness you will gain flex, you can also make a concave to make the board lighter.

Re: Paulownia paipo
I tested the board in small waves. It is actually pretty light and buoyant. For a strict prone use, I prefer my thinner and narower plywood board, for it has more flex and drive. I kneeboarded a little bit, super easy to "popup" cause the board is wide and flat, but then it is complicated ...

Re: Paulownia paipo
I started to oil the board with a mix of linseed oil and white spirit (I couldn't find turpentine), looks great.
I still need to apply several coats, but in the end it might be more efficient to protect the board than just a classic varnish, as the oil really penetrates deep inside the wood.

Paulownia paipo
Hi there, I found a paulownia provider near my city, so I got a 50x120cm, 2cm thick blank. I want to make an allround board, simple shape, finless, to use it as a prone paipo or as a kneeboard, depending of the conditions and the mood. I have a polyester resin paipo already (inspired by the elpaipo ...

Re: Mini Paipos
Nice kickboards !
I like these little planks, simple but efficient.
I usually ride plywood kickboards but yours seem more evolved.

Re: New project... this time a Paipo
I was too looking for very small fins for my paipo/kneeboard hybrid, and went for this alternative: 20210803_071101.jpg TMF knubster, it is supposed to be a center fin, I use it as twin fins. Comparing to the 2 classic thruster fins I tried before (bigger), the drag is significantly reduced, but it ...

Re: French paipo
New test this morning, in good clean waves. Knee riding this board was a blast, it has the agility of a paipo, like a paipo you can take off at the last moment, but once on knee you can do fun radical things, bottom turn, cut backs, although it won't pass flat sections most of the time. The bad part...

Re: French paipo
I tested the board, but it was too flat, the waves were too small. The good thing is that kneeboarding is easy on that thing, the shortness, the flat wide surface, it helps. The board has some floatation, which I am not used to. The keels fins seem too big for small waves. Next time I will use 2 cla...

Re: New project... this time a Paipo
I am not a big fan of cork, it does add a bit of floatation (not that much), but it takes days to dry. You don t need floatation on a paipo, it is just a comfort. Regarding the nose, I prefer it rounded, but it is a matter of preference.

Re: French paipo
Done !
I finally got the board.
I got a good discount on the board, as the paint job was not great.
Actually it looks like an actual old board
But the rest is good and quite conform to the original model.
